10. Black's Beach

Here's your chance to bare all. Although nudity was officially banned at this secluded, bathing suit-optional beach years ago, the law hasn't stopped the more daring sunbathers. Usually they congregate on the north side end of the beach near the Gliderport trail. Black's is also famous among surfers for its big winter swells. With steep trails leading down from the bluffs, Black's Beach can be difficult to reach, although it's possible to walk at low tide from Torrey Pines in the north or La Jolla Shores to the south. There is no permanent lifeguard station but lifeguards are usually on duty mid-day from April through the end of October. However, because of this beach's remoteness, it can take as long as 20 minutes for lifeguard assistance. There is an emergency call box at the south end of the beach. No restrooms are available but portable restrooms are available at the Gliderport.
