Vegetarian Dining in La Jolla
If you are a vegetarian, or are trying to cut down on your consumption of meat and poultry, you'll find many delicious options at La Jolla restaurants.
Chedi Thai Bistro on Pearl Street includes several vegetarian items on its lunch and dinner menus. Although Chedi Thai is not exclusively a vegetarian restaurant in La Jolla, most of its appetizers are vegetarian, including the Crispy Root Vegetable Spring Rolls, Vegetable Dumplings, Green Papaya Salad and Spicy Thai Salad. The salads are also gluten-free. For most of the entrees, including curries, you can substitute tofu for beef, chicken or fish or order a noodle or rice dish with vegetables. You can also order several vegetarian side dishes, including French green beans, steamed vegetables, spicy potato and bok choy sauteed in garlic sauce.
If you are craving filling and tasty Mexican food that is also healthy, try Don Carlos Taco Shop, which is next door to Chedi Thai on Pearl Street. Don Carlos offers a large selection of tacos (crispy, soft or rolled), tostadas and burritos with vegetarian fillings, including potato, scrambled egg, beans, tofu, rice and soyrizo (a spicy meat substitute that tastes exactly like chorizo sausage). Also popular are the mushroom quesadillas, the vegetarian burrito bowls (with several combinations available) and the tamales, such as pineapple raisin, sweet corn or mango peach. You can eat here or take your healthy Mexican food home.
