Five La Jolla Restaurants with an Ocean View

Oceanfront Dining in La Jolla

For those who love dining with a view of the ocean, there are no locations more satisfying than several oceanfront restaurants in La Jolla. Here you can enjoy watching the waves, the surfers, the seals and the sea lions while also enjoying the some of the finest meals in the country.

The Crab Catcher is one of our favorite La Jolla restaurants with a view. Overlooking the La Jolla Cove, the Crab Catcher specializes in fresh seafood inspired by flavors and food from California and the Pacific Rim. The restaurant hosts one of the most popular happy hours in town, with half-price specials on many of its appetizers and special prices on margaritas, beer, champagne and oyster shooters. On Thursday through Saturday evenings, the happy hour expands to include sushi. In addition to enjoying the breathtaking view and first-class food, you can also enjoy live music on Friday and Saturday nights. If you are looking for an even more casual environment or takeout, check out the restaurant's Ocean Tapas Bar next door.

For a bird's eye view of the ocean, take a ride up to the 11th floor of the Hotel La Jolla, located on La Jolla Shores Drive near Torrey Pines Road. Here you'll find Cusp, a modern Mediterranean-themed restaurant. From your table at Cusp, you'll be able to see all the way up the coastline and savor a meal made of local, seasonal fresh ingredients. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and also serves cocktails at the bar. If you enjoy wine tasting and can bear to break away from the view, join other wine lovers in the hotel lobby every evening between 5 and 6 p.m.

George's at the Cove is a favorite restaurant with both La Jolla regulars and visitors. At George's, you can look out at the ocean from three different levels, each with its own dining flavors. On the lower level, California Modern offers you a choice of dining experiences, including a seasonal a la carte menu, a chef's tasting menu (six courses), or a progressive, 14-course meal. The nearby Modern Bar serves seasonal cocktails make with fresh fruits and spices. For the best rooftop dining, select the Ocean Terrace on the top level and sip on freshly-squeezed lemonade or strawberry-infused vodka. The middle level features George's Bar, with both indoor and balcony seating, and the same casual bistro menu as the Terrace. Wherever you enjoy the view at George's, you can count on a menu that is always fresh and interesting, with an emphasis on locally-grown vegetables and seafood.

If you like to eat at beach level, with the waves rolling nearby, you'll find the perfect table at The Shores Restaurant, located in the La Jolla Shores Hotel. Enjoy this La Jolla restaurant with a view for breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. You can also sit indoors or outside on their patio, just steps from the sand. The restaurant also offers nightly specials and is known for its family-friendly atmosphere and service. The food is always fresh, with an emphasis on coastal cuisine and locally-grown produce and seafood.

La Jolla restaurant overlooking the Cove with floor-to-ceiling windows is the Steakhouse at Azul. Here you can enjoy all the traditional flavors and ambience of a traditional steakhouse with the freshest of meats and produce. Azul is open for lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch and features 100% USDA Prime steaks, Kobe-style Wagyu beef, chops, poultry and a generous selection of fresh seafood and shellfish. This restaurant with a view also offers two patio dining options, including one with a glass-enclosed fire ring and one for more casual dining and happy hours. For private events, you can also reserve the wine room, which offers a wonderful view north up the coastline.

After dinner, stop for a sweet treat at one of the many bakeries or desert spots in La Jolla. Use our La Jolla directory to help find local favorites!
