Restaurants & Dining on La Jolla's Famous Prospect Street

No matter what type of food or meal you're craving, you'll most likely find it at one of the many excellent La Jolla restaurants on Prospect Street. Offering spectacular views of the ocean and coastline, Prospect Street has become La Jolla's main thoroughfare since the founding fathers named it almost 100 years ago to reflect their New York City financial roots.

If your ideal way to spend a lazy afternoon is to sit and sip a margarita and watch the passing crowds, you'll enjoy Alfonso's. You can sit on the patio outdoors overlooking Prospect or relax indoors in a friendly environment. Alfonso's is open daily for lunch and dinner and offers a traditional Mexican cuisine, with some La Jolla specialties. The La Jolla burrito, for example, includes chicken with zucchini, onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, salsa verde and salsa fresco. Alfonso's also offers many combination plates, as well as special catering menus for parties and other events.

Bubba's Smoke House BBQ will have your mouth watering before you even walk through the door. Those who enjoy Southern-style cooking are usually hooked once they order a meal here. Family and dog-friendly, Bubba's is open for lunch and dinner and also offers catering and takeout services. The menu includes Southern-style ribs, pulled pork, tri-tip, brisket and chicken, salads, and a variety of home-style side orders, such as yam and corn nuggets. You can order a la carte, combination plates, family packs and children's meals. Desserts include sweet potato pie and bread pudding.

If you are a sushi and Asian fusion lover, you'll love Roppongi Restaurant & Sushi Bar. This La Jolla restaurant includes an outdoor patio with a fire pit, a cozy indoor bar lounge, a sushi bar, a large, comfortable dining room, and a room for private events. Roppongi is open for lunch and dinner and Sunday brunch and was voted by a Zagat survey as one of the world's top restaurants. Its creative cuisine relies on local and organic food and includes sushi, fish and meat entries, salads and appetizers known as tapas, including pork dumplings with mango chutney, spice crusted ahi, duck quesadilla and crispy tofu. Desserts include Tahitian bananas, mango sorbet, pumpkin gelato, and caramel or toffee pudding. All tapas are half price during afternoon happy hour.

The Living Room Coffeehouse is a popular gathering spot from early in the morning until late at night. Enjoy conversation or a private spot with Wi-Fi either outdoors overlooking Prospect or indoors overlooking the ocean. The Living Room offers fresh coffees and teas and a menu that works for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It includes breakfast burritos, bagels and eggs, egg sandwiches, pastries, muffins, cinnamon rolls, scones, fresh fruit, fruit and cheese, and a large variety of sandwiches and salads.

Step into The Spot and you'll swear you've gone back in time. Well, you have. The founders of the Spot brought the feeling of the Midwest to La Jolla when they opened The Spot in the late 70s featuring Chicago-style pizza and many other American classics. A friendly and popular restaurant and bar, The Spot serves a fresh and varied menu of burgers, sandwiches, fish, steaks, ribs, pastas and salads. The Spot is open daily for lunch and dinner and offers half off appetizers and reduced prices on several drinks during happy hour Monday through Friday.
