La Jolla Seafood Restaurants

For those who love seafood, there's nothing better than eating it fresh, beautifully prepared, and with a view of the ocean. You'll find that and more at three popular seafood restaurants in La Jolla.

At the Crab Catcher, perched high above the cliffs on Prospect Street, you look out over the La Jolla Cove and north-facing shoreline. You're in good company here, with long list of happy customers going back more than 30 years. The Crab Catcher seafood restaurant in La Jolla is open for lunch, dinner, happy hour, and Sunday brunch. Their menu specializes in fresh seafood from California and around the Pacific Rim. Lunch specialties include a variety of small plates, from crab bisque to crab stuffed mushrooms, shellfish dishes such as chilled or grilled oysters and wild Mexican poached shrimp, and several salads, sandwiches, and entrees. Enjoy a similar variety at dinner, with the addition of entrees such as crab legs, cioppino, lobster pasta and combination surf and turf dishes with steak. Next to the dining room is the Ocean Tapas Bar, where you can enjoy the same ocean view, live music, and a happy hour, with half-priced appetizers, oysters on the half shell or oyster shooters. The Crab Catcher also offers an outstanding wine list, a banquet room and a patio for private parties, and several special dining events throughout the year.

If you like jazz and a sophisticated vibe with your seafood dinner, then head to Eddie V's. Also located on Prospect, Eddie V's looks out over a sweeping view of the La Jolla coastline. This La Jolla seafood restaurant specializes in fresh seafood from the East, West and Gulf Coasts, as well as the Caribbean and prides itself on selecting only the best quality and preparing every dish simply but elegantly. Eddie V's lunch menu includes several appetizers, including oysters, guacamole, crispy shrimp and pork pot stickers, crab cakes, and apple salad with beets. They also offer outstanding salads and sandwiches and fish or lobster tacos. For dinner at Eddie V's, enjoy cold shellfish starters such as chilled shrimp or yellowtail sashimi as well as hot appetizers like batter fried oysters and kung pao calamari with cashews. Entrees include several fish dishes, hand cut steaks, sauces, and vegetables including baby beets, crab fried rice and roasted cauliflower. During happy hour every night from 4 to 7 p.m., you can sit in the comfortable V Lounge, enjoy live jazz and sip on a glass of wine or a cocktail.

El Pescador Fish Market is located a couple of blocks from the ocean on Pearl Street. For more than 30 years, El Pescador (which means The Fisherman) has been a favorite La Jolla seafood spot for both locals and visitors to buy fresh fish to prepare themselves or to order in a sandwich or on a salad to eat on the spot or take home. The fish market offers a dazzling assortment of fresh fish and can cook it for you char-grilled or sautéed. They also sell locally smoked salmon and honey smoked albacore. In addition to several sandwiches and salads, El Pescador serves clam chowder and cioppino, seafood cocktails, fish tacos, sautéed mussels or clams, and a sashimi plate.
