Best Brunches: Our Favorite La Jolla Restaurants Serving Brunch

Eggs Benedict

Nothing is more enjoyable than a leisurely weekend day, unless it's a Saturday or Sunday that starts with a delicious and relaxing brunch. If you're lucky enough to live in La Jolla, or to be visiting, you'll find several outstanding brunches to savor, each with its own unique flavors and atmosphere.

For a brunch featuring south-of-the border dishes, try the Adobe El Restaurante at the Estancia Resort & Spa Hotel just north of downtown La Jolla on Torrey Pines Road. Served every Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the Adobe's breakfast buffet features a full selection of breakfast classics, from freshly-squeezed orange juice and berries, to cereals, custom-made omelets, meats, breads and pastries. Adobe specialties include signature dishes like chilaquiles or huevos rancheros. You can also enjoy a bloody Mary or mimosa with your breakfast and sit inside or on the open-air balcony overlooking the Estancia's beautiful courtyard. After brunch, visit the nearby Birch Aquarium or go for a hike at Torrey Pines State Reserve just up the road.

One of La Jolla's best-known brunches is held every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mediterranean Room of La Valencia Hotel. Here you can enjoy your meal in the main dining area indoors or on the more casual patio outdoors. The La Jolla brunch menu includes a first course, entrée, assorted desserts and pastries and your choice of coffee, tea, mimosas, wine and beer. For the first course, you can select items such as a fruit plate, granola berry parfait, crab cake, oysters, smoked salmon, soup or salad. Brunch entrees include California omelet, buttermilk pancakes, eggs Benedict, pumpkin waffle, corned beef hash, burger, salad, street tacos and Reuben sandwich. After breakfast, enjoy a stroll along Prospect Street or down to Ellen Browning Scripps Park and the Cove.

If you're planning a visit to the Museum of Contemporary Art on Prospect Street on your Saturday or Sunday, then why not stop in for brunch first at the Museum Cafe. Located on the east side of the museum, this La Jolla restaurant is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and serves both a brunch and a lunch menu. All dishes are made with the freshest organic ingredients grown on local farms. For this brunch in La Jolla, choose from a wide variety of egg dishes, including scrambled, huevos rancheros, and the La Jolla omelet (mozzarella cheese, sauteed mushrooms, bacon and tomatoes), pancakes, cereals, fruit bowls, soups, salads, sandwiches, and burgers. You can also sit an sip on a variety of coffee drinks, teas, sodas, wines, beer, bloody Marys and mimosas.

Another favorite restaurant for brunch in La Jolla is the Shores Restaurant. Brunch is held every Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Located inside the La Jolla Shores Hotel, the family-friendly restaurant is just steps from the sand. Whether you're with a large group or enjoying a romantic getaway, the Shores offers an unbeatable combination of great food and ocean view. The a la carte menu brunch includes a variety of starters and entrees. You can start with seasonal fruit and berries, smoked salmon on a bagel, shrimp ceviche, artichoke and bean salad, or corn soup. Entrees include Tahitian vanilla golden waffle, pancakes, brioche French toast, several omelets, rosemary frittata, salads, sandwiches, burgers, salmon and steak.

After stopping at a La Jolla restaurant for brunch, hit downtown La Jolla for shopping or stop at the La Jolla cove and enjoy the view. Use our La Jolla directory for other great places to check out while in town!
