Tips On How To Fix a Leaking Faucet and Get Pipes Winter Ready
Winters in California are cold enough, but La Jolla's beautiful location is also close enough to the coast to make things just a little sharper. Your pipes may never be in danger of freezing, but running out of hot water in winter can happen. The best way to prevent this is to call one of the quality La Jolla plumbers from our Blue Book guide and have your water heater prepared for winter. There are two things to do before you call a plumber to come out and perform the repair.
Turn off the water supply. You don't need to shut off the main water supply to the home, but you do need to turn off the water supply to the faucet. In most cases, the turn off knob is located directly under the sink in the supporting cabinet. Turn on the faucet and then turn each of the two knobs controlling the hot and cold water supply until no more water is running. Make sure you test for running water in both the hot and cold positions. Here is a helpful tip for those who don't live alone, make sure to put a note on the faucet not to use it.
Find out the faucet type Find out the type of faucet you have, this will help speed the repair. Look at either the center inset on the water controls on top of the faucet; they typically will have the brand name written on them. You can also look at the base of the faucet where it connects with the sink. Often, the brand name will be written on the base. If all else fails, take out your cell phone and take a picture of the faucet. You can send this to the plumber before they arrive so they can identify your faucet and have the right parts on hand.
