La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club

For tennis lovers planning a vacation, it doesn't get much better than the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. The club is located right on the oceanfront in La Jolla Shores, on a private beach. For more than 75 years, the club has earned its reputation as one of the best tennis resorts in the country. Whether you're a novice or a seasoned tennis player or a fan who enjoys tournaments, you'll find more than enough to satisfy you at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.

Although the club is private, it is also a family and pet-friendly hotel, offering a variety of accommodations for non-members. Its 98 rooms include suites (from one to three bedrooms and some with kitchens), standard rooms, beachfront studios and rooms and two cottages.

The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club includes 12 championship hard tennis courts, a full-service pro shop and an experienced staff of tennis pros. Tennis lessons and services include private and semi-private lessons for adults and children, tennis clinics (group lessons of up to six students), ladies' summer camps, junior tennis lessons and camps, cardio tennis (an aerobic workout), singles ladder play, and tennis mixers (ladies' doubles, men's doubles and mixed doubles). The club also offers popular beach tennis a cross between badminton, volleyball and tennis that revolves around keeping the ball in the air and off the sand. It is played on a beach volleyball court, which can be reserved for personal use.

If you enjoy watching tennis pros in action, then plan your stay at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club during one of its many annual, national tournaments. These include the Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championships, USTA National Hard Court Championships for the Women's 50-90, USTA National Men's and Women's 40 and Over Hard Courts, and the USTA National Father and Son Hard Court Championships. The club has hosted tennis pros from around the world, including Pancho Gonzales, Jack Kramer, Ted Schroeder, Maureen Connolly, Billie Jean King, Stan Smith, Arthur Ashe, Roscoe Tanner and John McEnroe.

The club's tennis shop is open daily for your convenience and offers a wide variety of tennis gear, clothing (including tennis and resort wear), accessories (including hats and sunglasses), gifts, home decor, perfumes and snacks.

Should you want a break from tennis activities, the Beach and Tennis Club also includes a private beach, regular beach activities and barbecues, a swimming pool, a 9-hole golf course, a private dining room and the famous Marine Room Restaurant, where the waves splash against the windows as you enjoy your meal. The club is located just a short drive or walk from La Jolla Village, Torrey Pines State Reserve, the Birch Aquarium and UCSD.
