Cardio Barre and Fitwall areUnique La Jolla Fitness Clubs
La Jolla offers a variety of ways to exercise enjoying the ocean scenery outdoors, playing on a sports team, joining a gym, or Pilates or yoga studio. But if you're looking for a fitness workout that's a little different, La Jolla has that too. Two new exercise venues on Fay Avenue Cardio Barre and Fitwall are attracting those who enjoy challenging themselves with unusual programs. La Jolla Blue Book offers you an inside look at La Jolla fitness clubs that put a whole new twist on exercising.
Cardio Barre, "Hollywood's hottest workout," is a high-energy, no-impact exercise class that combines work on a ballet barre with light weights. Its continual motion helps you burn fat and sculpt and elongate muscles, including those in your arms, torso, hips and legs. Cardio Barre was created by dancer and choreographer Richard Giorla in Hollywood and now includes several studios in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The La Jolla Cardio Barre is the first to open in San Diego County. It offers three one-hour classes Monday through Saturday and one class on Sunday morning. You can select beginner or advanced classes and several payment plans, paying by the individual class or in series of 10, 20, 40, 40 or 50. If you prefer to create your own class with a group of family members or friends, Cardio Barre offers that option, as well as private one-on-one training sessions. The studio also sells portable ballet barres, no-slip socks and DVDs if you want to supplement your workout at home.
Fitwall promises smarter training in just 40 minutes, with a new type of exercise equipment and workout to increase strength, cardio health and flexibility. Fitwall uses a vertical training module (the fitwall) on which you perform a series of 14 exercises, from pull-ups and squats to leg kicks and ab work. You can actually perform more than 900 exercises on the fitwall, but the studio sticks to the basic 14 for a more efficient workout. The fitwall was developed over a 7-year period by Doug Brendle, a scientist and martial arts champion. Each fitwall is seven feet high and 30 inches wide. It has four stationary rungs for feet placement and four permanent tiers to grip. An attached iPad lets you monitor your heart rate and work level while on (or off) the wall. Fitwall's efficient workout saves you time and promotes muscle activation, balance for your whole body, increased calorie burn and decompression of the spine. The Fitwall studio includes 16 fitwall modules and offers seven 40-minute classes Monday through Friday, starting at 6 a.m. Two classes are also offered on Saturday and Sunday at 8 and 10 a.m. You can choose from three payment plans and pay online or from your cell phone. The studio here in La Jolla is Fitwall's first, with another one planned soon for Del Mar.
