While thousands flock to La Jolla, San Diego each year to take advantage of the warm climate, stunning beaches and picturesque views, as residents we sometimes need to get away from it all. Fortunately, our prime Southern California location makes it easy to escape from the everyday grind. Need some ideas for places to go? The La Jolla Blue Book offers our favorite seasonal getaways, perfect for single day and weekend trips.
Julian Apple Picking – Located a little more than 50 miles outside of San Diego is the small town of Julian, a popular spot for apple picking. As the autumn season begins, the back mountain town comes alive. Trees are dressed in vibrant shades of red and orange and the local orchards are in full swing. Head up and pick your own apples (and pears) and try a variety of apple based treats from pie to cider. Some of the most popular orchards in Julian include Apple Starr, Calico Ranch and Volcan Valley Apple Orchard (formerly Raven Hill), all welcoming visitors with stunning views as far as the eye can see!
Temecula – A short 45 minute drive from San Diego, Temecula is a great option for those who don’t want to venture to far. Recognized as “Southern California’s wine country” the area is home to acres of rolling vineyards and dozens of first class wineries. Tour one or hop around town and learn about the distilling process and sample your favorite types of wines as you enjoy the autumn views. Temecula is also home to many luxury hotels similar to the overnight accommodations in La Jolla, allowing visitors to make a weekend trip out of their wine tasting adventure.
Disneyland – While any time of the year is a great time to go to Disneyland, the autumn kicks off a number of holiday themed events. Now through October 31, Disneyland visitors can enjoy the “Happiest Place on Earth” as it gets spooky for the Halloween season. Everything from Main Street to the park’s popular rides will be transformed to provide a one of a kind adventure. Can’t make it to Disneyland in October? The park will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland for the remainder of the year.
If you don’t have time to escape for the day, you still deserve to treat yourself! Take the evening and grab your significant other or group of friends and head out for dinner in La Jolla. The area’s top restaurants are changing their menus to feature seasonal produce and autumn-inspired dishes that are sure to warm you up on a cool October evening.
