Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to the rest of the summer, and you can usually find most Americans celebrating with barbecues on the beach, pool parties, or cruising the San Diego harbor. We’ve put together a list of some of the best events happening around the city so you can start planning for a fun-filled weekend with friends and family! Mount Soledad Memorial Day Ceremony
On Monday, May 26, from 2pm-3pm, celebrate and honor our local veterans at the Memorial. Local San Diego Marine Sgt. Rafael Peralta, USMC, who was awarded the Navy Cross for making the ultimate sacrifice in saving the lives of fellow Marines, will be honored; the keynote speaker will be BGen James Bierman, Commanding General of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to honor our local vets!

Cruise San Diego Harbor on the Hornblower
Enjoy 1- and 2-hour harbor cruises throughout the weekend narrated with information about more than 50 different San Diego landmarks! Cruise 13 miles along the Big Bay in San Diego and take a look at several different species of marine animals and seabirds. A snack bar will be provided, complete with adult beverages, soft drinks, hot and cold snacks, and souvenirs. These are perfect if you have family or friends in town who want a truly unique San Diego experience! Tours leave several times daily starting at 10am and tickets are $24 per person. Veterans’ Remembrance Ceremony
Kick off Memorial Day weekend at an inspirational ceremony onboard the USS Midway!
This year, the ceremony will honor the Greatest Generation by commemorating the 70th Anniversary the D-Day landings at Normandy. Special Guest Speaker, Hon. Axel Cruau, Consul General of France in Los Angeles, will reflect on what the sacrifices of so many Americans in uniform meant to the people of France. The ceremony is free to the general public. Those in attendance will be granted free admission to the Midawy following the festivities. The wreath ceremony begins at 9am on Saturday May 24th. Celebrations and other activities will continue throughout the day aboard the USS Midway.
