Today is the first day of fall! Did you forget? Maybe you were too busy and the time just slipped you by. No worries. Perhaps it’s time to take a break with loved ones and family and enjoy and unwind from the daily grind. Let’s hope you won’t forget to check out one or more of these San Diego area events this weekend.
Saturday, 7:30 to 12:00 p.m. Ocean Beach Pier
You won’t have to put popcorn in your pancakes this Saturday so they turn over by themselves, because the ever friendly folks from OB will be flippin’ the flappies. If you haven’t previously experienced this event, the Ocean Beach Pier Pancake Breakfast is a blast and an enduring and popular tradition in OB. It also kicks off a big fundraiser, the OB Food and Toy Drive and all of OBTC’s holiday events.
Pancake and breakfast lovers can purchase tickets at the entrance to the pier on the morning of the event or buy them online at the link above. The price is a paltry $10 for adults and a five spot for the kiddos. All proceeds, yes, all proceeds, benefit the Annual OB Toy and Food Drive, which aids in excess of 90 area families and senior citizens in need during the forthcoming holiday season. Come savor a fantastic, piping hot breakfast, a few mimosas, and revel in the best view in all of OB. If you are able, kindly consider bring along your own plate, cups and silverware.
Saturday, September 23, 6:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Have you ever heard a jungle at night? Imagine the sounds of over 400 animals and 800 species after the sun dives behind the horizon! The zoo’s globally-inspired food, wine, and brew tasting event features in excess of 160 of Southern California’s finest vendors, along with live entertainment and dancing – all set on the spotless premises of the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Come out to back and defend wildlife while releasing your innermost party animal! This flavorsome evening for wildlife benefits the San Diego Zoo Global Wildlife Conservancy. If you haven’t been to the San Diego Zoo (you should!), it is located in expansive Balboa Park at 2920 Zoo Dr in San Diego.
Saturday & Sunday 8 a.m. – 4:20 p.m.
A fantastic family event, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels demonstration team and the Patriots Jet Team gear up for fast-paced formation flying and choreographed aerobatic maneuvers. In addition, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (NCAS) is grateful to host a line-up of citizen entertainers, including Sean Tucker’s “Oracle Challenger,” John Collver’s “Wardog,” the Shockwave Jet Truck, and Steve Stavrakakis’ “Tribute to Vets.”
Additionally, experience the thrill of watching performances from military parachute teams and aerial demonstrations by the F-35B Lightning II, the AV-8B Harrier, the MV-22B Osprey, and an intense Marine Air-Ground Task Force demonstration. These are highly trained soldiers you’ll have more respect for, trust us. The MCAS Miramar flight line will also feature stationary displays, including past and present aircraft and ground combat equipment, air show mementos, and a veritable host of vendors and various activities. Regular entrance is absolutely free, and preferred seating options are available online or at the Miramar ITT Office, Bldg. 2524. The air show and festivities are located at MCAS Miramar, Miramar Way/Miramar Road in San Diego.
Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. until closing
Gather up the family this weekend and head on over to Sea World San Diego to catch a peep of a variety of silly and scary live entertainment. Take a chill pill and watch the kids trick or treat for candy and treats throughout the park in a safe, family-friendly environment, included with the price of admission.
Halloween Spooktacular is one of the San Diego area’s largest fall festivals. Get in the spooky spirit and catch popular live shows like Clyde & Seamore’s Halloween Bash and Sesame Street’s Who Said Boo?! Why not take a selfie or join in an impromptu dance party with Sea World costumed characters! And if you look around, you may be surprised to see singing pumpkins in the park.
Spooktacular is included with all park admissions, and if you cannot make it this weekend, the annual event takes place every Saturday and Sunday from Saturday September 23 through October 29, 2017. Bawahahahahahahahahahahaha!
