The community of La Jolla, CA offers some of the best shopping experiences in the world. In order to keep up with the demand for these fashion looks, Westfield UTC has gone under a massive renovation and expansion. With the convenience of shopping online and receiving packages a few days later, retail developers now have the task of making malls into a “destination experience” in order to attract shoppers. The Westfield UTC expansion will set the bar for a premier shopping destination.
Situated in an ideal location, Westfield UTC had its last revitalization in 1984 with the addition of Nordstroms. By the end of this year, the mall will look entirely new. The $1 billion dollar expansion project has included a brand new luxury Arclight cinemas, a polished food court, and a 24 hour fitness super sport. Other store openings include Rolex, J. Crew, Tiffany & Co., a Forever 21 anchor store, Splendid, Tesla Motos, Hanna Andersson, Kiehls, Diane’s Beachwear, The Art of Shaving, and White House|Black Market. Madewell, which recently just opened this past week has had a huge success. As sister store to J. Crew and known mainly for their denim, Madewell has attracted a large group of fans and now has two store locations in San Diego. New restaurant openings include Eureka!, Seasons 52, and Tender Greens. With much popularity and buzz surrounding UTC, the mall has attracted other retail stores as well. Set to open soon at the shopping destination are Lululemon Athletica, PIRCH, Michael Kors, Teavana, and Geppetto’s Toys.
Not only will you notice new stores at Westfield UTC, but you will also find it easier to shop and park at the mall. The master plan for the development includes an extra 3,000 parking spaces, 150 new stores, 3 new anchors, a high rise hotel, 300 condominiums, office space, 2,400 new jobs, and upgrades to existing stores. In total, the mall will grow from 4,500 parking spaces to 7,500, 150 stores to 300 stores, and expand from 1,066,842ft retail space to 1,816,842ft retail space (making it even larger than fashion valley and one of the largest in California). The entire mall has been renovated with the addition of lounge seating throughout, water features, and a fresh modern appeal. 70 stores will be redeveloped with tall facades, with what Westfield UTC calls “High Street” stores.
This summer, take a break and enjoy the new amenities found at Westfield UTC. Chances are, you will no longer have to drive down to Fashion Valley to find what you’re looking for.
