Art and music aficionados are in store for a few special treats this Independence Day weekend in La Jolla and the greater San Diego area. Before and after you head over to La Jolla Cove for Tuesday’s fireworks display, be sure to pop in and check out the following exhibitions and events.
This Saturday July 1st, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Thumbprint Gallery, art lovers have an opportunity to feast their eyes on an exhibit entitled “Illumination.” The exhibition features new works by Richard Salcido and Armando Gonzalez, two local figurative artists whose subjects are centered in a juxtaposition of light and partial abstraction. The highly recognized Thumbprint Gallery curates monthly exhibitions that feature evolving, mid-career, and well-established artists with a focus on urban art and pop surrealism. If you possess an affinity for urban art and pop surrealism, be sure to check out these new works. Since 2009, the Thumbprint Gallery’s welcoming atmosphere has been providing a warm ambiance where art lovers can mix it up and appreciate various works of art that support local, national, and international artists. Thumbprint Gallery is located at 920 Kline St in scenic La Jolla. The event is absolutely free. For additional information, call (858) 354-6294.
Monday Night Medley is yet another eclectic art and fashion event artists won’t want to miss out on. This Monday, July 3rd, paint artists and spectators are invited to stop in at URBN Coal Fired Pizza for what proves to be a fantastic evening. An art exhibition by Nonie Cruzado will be the highlight of the evening beginning at 5 p.m. and lasting until 10 p.m. Cruzado is the winner of the Art Around Adams Competition 2017. In addition to the exhibit, there will be free life drawing sessions until 8 p.m. Furthermore, a free live art model will be on hand. Gather up those brushes, paint, canvases and/or sketchpads and hop on over to URBN. And for those without the aforementioned, paints, brushes and canvases will be provided. URBN is ideally located at 3085 University Avenue in beautiful San Diego.
Finally, and certainly not least of all, every third Thursday of the month, Megaphone provides an opportunity for local artists, art galleries and crafters to develop their keen sense of creativity and network with fellow creative through group art exhibitions. The event is free and open to the public from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Artists and art lovers can hook up and share their craft in a relaxed atmosphere this July 6th at Eve Encinitas. The venue is located at 575 S. Coast Hwy 101 in Encinitas. When the fireworks are over on the 4th, pop in to the ever friendly Eve. For additional information, call (760) 230-2560.
