Make a wish come true this year with Toys for Tots! From November 10 until December 15, the La Jolla Blue Book is participating in the Toys for Tots 2014 campaign as a drop-off location. Visit us at the Find It La Jolla Visitor Center (7966 Herschel Avenue) seven days a week between 11am and 3pm with a new, unwrapped toy for a child up to age 12.
For each toy that is dropped off, receive either a free taco from Puesto La Jolla or a free cookie from Girard Gourmet (while supplies last; one per person only please). At the end of the campaign, Toys for Tots will distribute the toys we collect as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children throughout the community.
“The mission of Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is to assist the U. S. Marine Corps in providing a tangible sign of hope to economically disadvantaged children at Christmas. This assistance includes supporting the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program by raising funds to provide toys to supplement the collections of local Toys for Tots campaigns.” Toys for Tots was first founded by Major Bill Hendricks in Los Angeles in 1947 and was acquired by the US Marine Corps in 1948. More than 5,000 toys were collected that first year, and the campaign is still going strong today.
