From 1:30pm to 5pm on Sunday, December 7, enjoy the spirit of the holidays and celebrate the changing of seasons with the village! For the past 57 years, the La Jolla Christmas Parade has been a staple of the La Jolla community and a large part of what makes the holidays in our town so special. Beautiful floats, costumes, and talented marching bands join forces in what continues to be one of the most incredible traditions in our community.
This year’s theme is the “Spirit of Christmas – Peace on Earth.” The festivities begin Sunday afternoon with the traditional antique-aircraft flyover, which marks the official launch of the parade. The procession itself will feature marching bands, fire trucks, equestrians, canine units and beautifully decorated floats sponsored by local organizations and businesses. A unique display of antique tractors will be a new addition to the parade this year, which will be riding alongside more floats and equestrians than ever before.
New educational activities at the Holiday Festival (which takes place at the La Jolla Recreation Center from 2:30pm-5pm) will put a fresh twist on kid-friendly entertainment this year. Activities will include lessons on surfing, hula hooping, a special talk by author Daniel Darko, a LJHS Bioscience Center Exhibit, and music and singing on a special Holiday Stage, in addition to photos with Santa, games, and the popular tree-lighting ceremony closing the evening at 5pm.
Visit the Parade’s official website for parking information.
