La Jolla Yoga Studios Contribute to the Growing Fitness Trend

This year’s annual Yoga Journal Conference featured over thirty master teachers who hosted more than 100 classes.  The calming waters and the mild climate of San Diego, California offered the ideal backdrop for the conference.  However, the strong yoga community of local beach towns may have been more of a driving factor for the conference’s location.  In comparison to other areas in California, La Jolla yoga studios as well as studios in neighboring areas such as Encinitas have experienced some of the strongest growth in the yoga movement, especially in the past few years.

Studies report that there were 10 million “yogis” in the United States who practiced on a consistent basis in 2007.  In 2011, it was reported that the number had dramatically risen to 14.5 million, a 45% increase.  The strongest practicing region of yoga is the Pacific Mountain, with California experiencing the largest concentration.  For San Diego in particular, many studios and longtime yogis in coastal communities have seen the awareness of the sport shift to a dramatic growth in participation and in the industry itself.

Along with the increase in participation, yoga has become a fashion conscious sport.  While some attribute this to a high celebrity involvement, yoga has ultimately created a new lifestyle with its own fashion market.  There has been extreme and continued growth in sales for companies that specialize in yoga related fashions.  Next time you are shopping in La Jolla, stop at Lululemon Athletica or Lucky Activewear, popular yoga specialty stores offering the latest yoga apparel and trendy accessories.

La Jolla is home to dozens of yoga studios that emphasize the health benefits as well as the calming effects of yoga exercises.  With a variety of types and styles highlighting multiple techniques, there is a yoga class to suit your skill level and individual needs.  Additionally, Yoga studios in La Jolla usually provide a variety of experienced and professional teachers and classes throughout the day to fit your personal schedule.  If you are looking to begin practicing yoga, many studios offer introductory courses for a complimentary or low price to provide comfort and one-on-one assistance.

Find Great La Jolla Yoga Studios

In La Jolla, and around the United States, there are many yoga studios in which people can take lessons and practice yoga. There are several factors that someone should consider when choosing from La Jolla yoga studios. The first thing to remember is that yoga should never be painful. Feeling a stretch or tired muscle pain isn’t a bad thing, but yoga instructors should be respectful of each class member’s limitations and shouldn’t push students to go beyond those limits. Additionally, students must remember to push themselves, but be wary of what is too much. If you choose to do hot (Bikram) yoga, you must stay hydrated. You need to feel safe leaving if necessary. You should also find La Jolla yoga studios where the teachers understand basic anatomy. They shouldn’t be forcing students to do poses that are not structurally safe for their students. The teacher should offer ideas for modifications for students, so that participants at all levels can enjoy the class. If you’re looking for yoga studios in La Jolla you should also find a class in which you learn poses that can be done at home. The teacher should instruct clearly so that students can practice between sessions if they choose.

Yoga is an excellent way to get and stay healthy for many reasons. Health professionals agree that yoga serves as a great form of exercise and has many benefits. The first benefit of yoga is improved flexibility. Many positions require deep stretches that will improve flexibility over time. A second benefit is relaxation. Yoga is well known for its focus on bringing the mind and body together and deep breathing techniques. This helps practitioners relax and feel at peace. Balance and strength are also benefits of yoga. Many poses build strength and require a great sense of balance. Although yoga stresses the importance of listening to your body and not pushing any harder than you are able, strength and balance are still extremely likely to increase over time. Some people who practice yoga also experience better mood, lower blood pressure, increased endurance, more energy, and better concentration. Yoga is also beneficial because it is a low impact form of exercise and there is a low risk of injury. Some individuals who practice yoga also indicate a higher sense of confidence, a more mindful approach to eating, and better relationships. These elements are directly related to yoga’s creation of the awareness of one’s body.

Regardless of where you practice, yoga should be both safe and fun so you can enjoy the benefits!

In order to live a spiritually integrated life in the complex, troubled world in which we live, we need to understand and know how to act from the center of insight, love and peace. For that we must learn to listen to our own inner, unpolluted wisdom. This means it is essential to turn from our usual outward focus and face inwardly. Our own inner wisdom, does not depend on schools and systems of thought, but holds at its core a balanced state of peace and harmony with all; from there we can breathe freely, live peacefully and act effectively.

Yoga Philosophy: Consciousness and Matter
Purusha, consciousness expressing as illuminating power, ( i.e. light and/or intelligence) Prakriti, the manifesting power or energy. These could be referred to as spirit and matter, however by looking at the two forces we find that we are ultimately talking about Light as the origin of the universe… knowledge that is part of global wisdom. From light (even when we consider modern biology) life emerged; just as from the formless, form emerged. Neither exists without the other…Let’s explore the many levels of this issue.
