Michael Kors & Lululemon Joining Tiffany & Co. At Westfield UTC Expansion

The community of La Jolla, CA offers some of the best shopping experiences in the world. With pristine store fronts and cobblestone paved sidewalks, La Jolla is known as having the most savvy styles and trends. In order to keep up with the demand for these fashion looks, Westfield UTC has gone under a massive renovation and expansion. With the convenience of shopping online and receiving packages a few days later, retail developers now have the task of making malls into a “destination experience” in order to attract shoppers. The Westfield UTC expansion will set the bar for a premier shopping destination.

Renditions of the mall after development

Renditions of the mall after development

Situated in an ideal location, Westfield UTC had its last revitalization in 1984 with the addition of Nordstroms. By the end of this year, the mall will look entirely new. The $1 billion dollar expansion project has included a brand new luxury Arclight cinemas, a polished food court, and a 24 hour fitness super sport. Other store openings include Rolex, J. Crew, Tiffany & Co., a Forever 21 anchor store, Splendid, Tesla Motos, Hanna Andersson, Kiehls, Diane’s Beachwear, The Art of Shaving, and White House|Black Market. Madewell, which recently just opened this past week has had a huge success. As sister store to J. Crew and known mainly for their denim, Madewell has attracted a large group of fans and now has two store locations in San Diego. New restaurant openings include Eureka!, Seasons 52, and Tender Greens. With much popularity and buzz surrounding UTC, the mall has attracted other retail stores as well. Set to open soon at the shopping destination are Lululemon Athletica, PIRCH, Michael Kors, Teavana, and Geppetto’s Toys.

New features highlight the retail complex

New features highlight the retail complex

Not only will you notice new stores at Westfield UTC, but you will also find it easier to shop and park at the mall. The master plan for the development includes an extra 3,000 parking spaces, 150 new stores, 3 new anchors, a high rise hotel, 300 condominiums, office space, 2,400 new jobs, and upgrades to existing stores. In total, the mall will grow from 4,500 parking spaces to 7,500, 150 stores to 300 stores, and expand from 1,066,842ft retail space to 1,816,842ft retail space (making it even larger than fashion valley and one of the largest in California). The entire mall has been renovated with the addition of lounge seating throughout, water features, and a fresh modern appeal. 70 stores will be redeveloped with tall facades, with what Westfield UTC calls “High Street” stores.

This summer, take a break and enjoy the new amenities found at Westfield UTC. Chances are, you will no longer have to drive down to Fashion Valley to find what you’re looking for. Indulge in fine shopping, gourmet La Jolla restaurants, and catch a summer flick. Let us know what your favorite additions are to Westfield UTC by commenting below.

Costa Verde Shopping Center

For a change of venue from the La Jolla Village shops or one of the big malls, check out convenient Costa Verde Shopping Center. The center includes plenty of parking and is easy to access, across from the Westfield UTC mall on Genesee between La Jolla Village Drive and Nobel.

Costa Verde may be on the smaller side, but it doesn’t lack for shops, restaurants and other businesses. With more than 40 retail shops and services and 13 restaurants, the center offers something for everyone and makes one-stop shopping easy.

For example, if you need groceries or are planning a dinner party, stop in at the center’s gourmet market, Bristol Farms, the only one in San Diego. Here you’ll find friendly customer service and the finest meats, seafood, delicatessen, cheese, bakery, produce, catering, sushi and specialty groceries. The award-winning staff can help you plan your party, pick out your wines and even cater your event. Bristol Farms also offers ongoing cooking classes and wine tastings.

If you’re stopping to eat, whether for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, you’ll find something to savor at Costa Verde. There’s Roy’s (Hawaiian fusion), La Jolla Strip Club (steaks), Appollonia Greek Bistro, KI Sushi & Saki Bar, Coco’s, Five Guys Burgers and Fries and Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza. For takeout, try Baskin Robbins, McDonalds, Robeks Juice, Starbucks or Subway.

If you’re watching your weight or working out, Costa Verde includes a Jenny Craig Weight Loss Center, with personal weight loss counseling, and The Boxing Club, with boxing, yoga, pilates and cardio fitness workouts. After your workout you may want to enjoy a manicure, a massage, or a haircut, easy to find at Costa Verde Nails, Massage Envy or Supercuts. And, if you’re looking for advice on vitamins and other supplements, you’ll find the guidance and products you need at Nutrimart.

Costa Verde also offers many services, including Allstate Insurance, Computerized Cobbler (shoe, handbag and luggage repair), two banks (First Citizens and Wells Fargo) Costa Verde Car Wash, Go Wireless (Verizon cell phone plans, cell phones and accessories), La Jolla Cleaners, and a U.S. post office. Medical and dental services include The Classical Eye (optometrist and optician), Costa Verde Dentistry and Orthodontics and Integrated Medical Centers (chiropractor).

Costa Verde’s shops include the Active Foot Store (custom orthotics and comfortable shoes and arch supports), Bookstar (a great bookstore with many discounts, books on all topics, magazines, newspapers, books on tape, maps, calendars, and gifts), Classique Fine Jewelers, The Men’s Wearhouse, Sleep Train Mattress Center (mattress sets and beds) and two large consignment clothing stores, My Sister’s Closet for women and Well Suited for men.

Before heading up to Costa Verde, be sure to browse their website for many special offers and discounts.
