Seeing the tide pools in San Diego is a great family-friendly activity for spring! They’re totally free, and are a terrific way to learn about the marine life that inhabits our oceans and rocky reefs. On any given day you may stumble upon octopus, tube snails, hermit crabs, water slugs, sea hares, sea cucumbers, sea anemone and numerous types of vegetation. Some of the animals attach themselves to the rocks, and others just swim or float – which provides a great vantage point for viewing! Here are a few tips to get you started. Continue reading
The weekend is upon us again with excellent summer weather in the forecast! There’s plenty of things happening in and around La Jolla. In particular, check out our neighbors to the south, OB and the Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cook-off this Saturday. Going to Balboa park this Sunday? Stop by the International Cottages and catch a lawn program featuring Argentina. Taste some great food and watch a traditional performance for free! See what else is going on with our La Jolla weekend events for June 27 – 29th.

Last week we were treated to a day of excellent company during an enlightening tour of Corgi Castle, the slice of paradise where Girard Gourmet owner, Francois Goedhuys, grows the fruit and vegetables served at his establishment. There was more to this experience than great hospitality, though. Our afternoon culminated in a very special lunch cooked by our host’s good friend, Michel Stroot, a man who also happens to be the former Executive Chef at the ‘Golden Door’ for over 25 years, as well as a contributing chef for the Tomorrow Project.
To cap off this beautiful Tuesday afternoon, we thought we’d host a little trivia challenge based on local facts and figures. The questions aren’t too difficult, but we’ll be impressed if anyone can get 6 out of 6 without consulting the all-knowing Oracle (or Wikipedia, as it’s commonly referred to). Good luck and let us know how how you do by dropping a comment or joining the conversation on Facebook.
San Diego has so much more to offer than beach-front dining, microbrews galore, and top-notch museums. So what do you do in America’s Finest City if you’re looking to get your blood pumping?
The Cottage in La Jolla, known for their popular breakfast and lunch menu, is reintroducing their famous cinnamon rolls with a new and improved recipe. The Cottage achieves the perfect balance in thick, soft, moist, warm that will literally melt in your mouth cinnamon rolls and La Jolla Blue Book was there to taste it all.
The cinnamon roll is back on the menu after being absent for a few years, but we recommend you get there early as only a dozen of them are made daily. The rolls are big enough to share with someone but we won’t judge you if you don’t and neither will The Cottage.
