Scripps Translational Science Institute (STSI) in La Jolla has recently received a $29 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for funding research regarding individualized medicine. According to US News Health, individualized medicine is “a field of healthcare informed by each person’s unique clinical, genetic, genomic, and environmental information”. Ellen Browning Scripps is a special person in La Jolla’s history. As the leading philanthropist for the community, Scripps changed the image of La Jolla into what we know it today. From the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, Scripps Park at the La Jolla Cove, Scripps Memorial Hospital, Torrey Pines State Park, the Bishop’s School, the Scripps Research Institue, and to the famous children’s pool, Ellen Browning Scripps truly played an important role in helping create the ‘jewel city’.
