Celebrate Summer with a Picnic in La Jolla

Looking for a way to enjoy the summer sunshine in La Jolla? How about a picnic? La Jolla is home to many beautiful parks, a majority with breathtaking views of the Pacific. Whether you’re in the mood for a picnic lunch or dinner, grab your friends, family or significant other and enjoy a relaxing meal along the ocean!

A favorite picnic spot for La Jolla natives and tourists is Ellen Browning Scripps Park which is located just above the La Jolla Cove beach. With lush, soft grass and mature shade trees, the park is ideal for picnicking. Stop by a local La Jolla deli for your all your picnic needs and spend the day taking in the majestic ocean views. If you want to have a barbeque, there are grills at the park, as well as a few picnic tables.

Another casual spot for picnics is the La Jolla Shores Park. The park has a large grassy area, as well as a children’s play area where there is plenty of room to spread out and have a picnic. If you have a large family or group with you, consider having a potluck. There are handful of BBQ grills and picnic tables to gather around, so have everyone bring their favorite summer dishes and enjoy an afternoon of fun at the shores.

For individuals who are looking for a more romantic picnicking spot, check out Calumet in the Birdrock community of La Jolla. Although Calumet’s location at the end of a residential street would make you think it was just an ordinary park for locals, it is one of La Jolla’s hidden treasures. Because it is situated at the top of a grassy bluff, the views from this park are absolutely stunning. Plus, its small size makes it great for picnickers who are looking for a more private and intimate experience.

Whether you are planning on brining your favorite homemade dishes or are grabbing takeout from a nearby La Jolla restaurant for your picnic adventure, you can’t go wrong with a meal along the water. Already been picnicking this summer? Share your favorite La Jolla picnic spots with us!
