The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s (MCASD) exciting annual Monte Carlo fundraiser will be making a splash September 12 with a unique new theme, Monte Carlo: Glamping at the museum’s La Jolla location. “Glamping,” the term used to describe glamorous camping, is fitting for the event’s 39th year. The gala will take advantage of La Jolla’s beautiful end of summer weather, and will feature a cocktail party, silent auction, and dinner in line with the event’s outdoorsy theme while guests enjoy a sweeping view of the gorgeous ocean below. With a variety of unique aspects to this party, the night promises to be full of glamour, delicious food, and good company.
The La Jolla Music Society SummerFest returns this year with one of its most impressive and adventurous rosters yet. The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is a group of ukulele-toting, singing musicians who buy instruments with loose change and believe that all genres of music are available for re-imagination, with one caveat – that they are all played on the ukulele. From rocking out to Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (check out the video below!) to Tchaikovsky’s elegant “Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy” and recreating the melodic warbling of Simon and Garfunkel, these eight incredible musicians have truly mastered the art of the uke with a musical repertoire that spans generations.This performance is one you won’t want to miss, and they’re coming to the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla!
