Saturday, May 18th:

Picnic in the Park
11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Cesar Chavez Park
The Port of San Diego hosts this free, family-friendly picnic Saturday at Cesar Chavez Park filled with live music and original performances from The San Diego Dance Theater inspired by the city’s scenic waterfront. The event will also include a free photobooth, giveaways, refreshments and an all-ages, interactive art project.

C.S. Lewis’ ‘The Screwtape Letters’
4 p.m. and 8 p.m., Balboa Theatre
The stage adaption of C.S. Lewis’ satiric masterpiece follows Screwtape, a senior tempter in Hell who schemes to capture the soul of an unsuspecting human on Earth. The production will take the stage at Balboa Theatre twice Saturday – at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets start at $42.50.

Saturday, May 11th:

Mommy & Me Succulent Arranging Workshop
2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Searsucker Del Mar Highlands
This Mother’s Day weekend activity at Searsucker Del Mar Highlands features a succulent wreath-arranging workshop for moms and their little ones (recommended ages: 6 to 12). The DIY workshop includes step-by-step instruction led by Rain to Roots, plus all of the plants and materials needed to create a 12-inch wreath for mom and a 6-inch heart-shaped wreath for the little one. The $56.50 ticket (for both mom and child entry) also includes a glass of wine or beer for grown-ups and a “mocktail,” juice or lemonade for the kids. Snacks from Searsucker can be purchased additionally.

Rooftop Cinema Club Presents: ‘Mary Poppins Returns’
8:30 p.m., Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego
The 2018 Emily Blunt-led sequel to the classic tale of “Mary Poppins” takes over the big outdoor movie screen Saturday night on the scenic rooftop at the Manchester Grand Hyatt as part of the hotel’s Rooftop Cinema Club. Catch the flick alongside stunning views of the San Diego skyline and feel the magic as Mary Poppins returns to help the Banks children navigate the obstacles of adulthood. Tickets start at $17; you can self-park in the hotel’s garage for four hours for free if you buy food (other than popcorn or candy) or drinks at the Rooftop Cinema Club.

Sunday, May 12th:

Mother’s Day Painting
12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Cool Creations Paint-Your-Own-Pottery Café
Spend some quality time painting with mom at this Mother’s Day Painting session at Cool Creations on Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach. Tickets cost $5 per person, plus the cost of pottery materials; moms get 25 percent off their pottery.

Saturday, May 4th:

Fiesta Old Town Cinco de Mayo
10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Old Town San Diego State Historic Park
If you’re looking for an authentic Cinco de Mayo fiesta in San Diego this Sunday, look no further than Old Town San Diego. The landmark will throw its annual, three-day Cinco de Mayo party this weekend, beginning Friday night, and then from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Cinco de Mayo. The free festival will boast live music, dance performances, Lucha Libre wrestling matches, a car show, deals at participating Old Town restaurants and more. This, all in the heart of the state historic park that celebrates Mexican-American culture year-round.

Party Like Gatsby San Diego
7 p.m. to 11:45 p.m., The Observatory North Park
Party like it’s 1922 at this traveling, Gatsby-themed shindig making a stop at The Observatory in North Park Friday night. The evening includes live performances, a live band and lots of dancing. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best roaring ‘20s duds, too. Tickets cost just under $44

Saturday, April 20th:

Easter Bunny Teas at The Westgate Hotel
2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., The Westgate Hotel
Put on your Saturday best, and over to Westgate Hotel with your little ones for an Easter-themed afternoon of Parisian-inspired tea service. Called the “Easter Bunny Tea,” this event includes kid-friendly sweets and sandwiches and, tea! Just be sure drink with your pinky out. There will also be an egg hunt on the Riviera Terrace, followed by a magic show starring the Easter Bunny. Tickets are $79 for adults and $55 for children age 4 to 12; kids age 3 and under get in free. Special event parking at the hotel costs $12.

Silent Disco Yoga
10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Hospitality Point in Mission Bay
Get your Saturday-Night Fever yoga pants on. This yoga session Hospitality Point in Mission Bay will surely make your weekend. Instructors will guide yogis through a one-hour class while DJs play the tunes. Students can choose which DJ they want to groove to, and this event is only $5 – $10!

Easter at The Prado
10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., The Prado at Balboa Park
Happy Easter! Come celebrate at The Prado in the heart of Balboa Park. They will be offering their Easter Dining option this Sunday, a champagne brunch buffet with seating from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Guests will get a carving station, a chilled seafood display, a pancake station and more. The buffet costs $65.95 for adults, and $17.95 for kids ages 6 to 12. Kids under 5 will be able to eat free. Call ahead for reservations at (619) 557-9441, ext. 1.

Easter at The Del
Times Vary, The Hotel del Coronado
Feeling festive for Easter? Then head over The Del, where they will be hosting their  annual fancy Champagne Easter Brunch. This will take place in Crown Room, boasting regionally-inspired dishes, made-to-order mimosas, a colorful dessert bar, and of course live musical entertainment. After brunch, walk over to the Windsor Lawn for an egg hunt. This year’s event will also include a petting zoo and family photos with the Easter Bunny from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At $140 for adults and $65 for kids age 4. Call The Del to make reservations ahead of time.

Saturday, April 6th:

Bluegrass Yoga
10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Societe Brewing
Partake in a one-hour, instructor-led yoga session followed by a pint at Society Brewing Saturday morning. The class will be set to bluegrass music, so expect everything from the classics of the genre and Americana, to contemporary. A $15 ticket includes the yoga class and a full pour of Societe beer. The event is 21+; bring your own mat.

ArtFest at San Diego Botanic Garden
9 a.m. to 5 p.m., San Diego Botanic Garden
The San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas will host ArtFest this Saturday and Sunday, a festival highlighting more than 30 local and regional artists displaying their works, including paintings, sculptures and jewelry. The fest will also celebrate the art of Asian horticulture, with demos by the Ohara School of Ikebana, La Jolla Chapter and Bonsai and Beyond. Food trucks and live music round-out the affair, including a live performance by the San Diego Taiko Drummers on Saturday morning. The festival is free with paid admission into the Botanic Garden, which costs $18 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $10 for children ages 3 to 10.

Race for Autism
7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Balboa Park
April is Autism Awareness Month, and The Race for Autism Superhero 5K and Family Walk will be held at Balboa Park Saturday morning. The proceeds from the race will support San Diego autism programs, services and local classrooms. This great event includes music, a resource fair, activities for the kids, and medals.

Yoga + Beer
10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Eppig Brewing
Calling all yogis and beer lovers! Cruz over to Eppig Brewing’s North Park location for a 60-minute Vinyasa flow, followed by a pint of Eppig craft beer. This popular event is $20 and is limited in space, so reserve your mat ahead of time by emailing events@eppigbrewing.com. You’ll be saying “namaste right here” in no time.

The 2019 Mustache Bash
2 p.m. to 11 p.m., The Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier
Ready for Saturday night fever? This funky outdoor festival will take place this weekend at San Diego’s Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier Saturday. There will be three stages of live music (funk and disco) food, and beer. Bring your grooviest outfit and dance like John Travlota. Tickets are $65; and there’s an after-party at Bang Bang for an extra $30.

Water Lantern Festival
3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Chollas Lake
Come be united with the nation as the Water Lantern Festival celebrates peace, love and happiness. The event will take place at San Diego’s Chollas Lake Saturday evening. Attendees get to decorate a lantern to then launch into the lake, and the ticket also includes food trucks, music, and fun activities. Adult tickets cost $35 if purchased ahead of time, and $40 at the gate. Youth tickets for children age 8 to 14 cost $12; kids 7 and under get in free- entry does not include a lantern, which can be purchased separately for $15.
