Panera Bread is Leaving the Village of La Jolla

If you haven’t heard by now, Panera Bread on Girard Avenue and Wall Street is packing up iPBts bagels, sandwiches, soups and closing down its La Jolla location. The popular La Jolla bakery-cafe will be closing its doors on Sunday, September 15, as part of a mutual and friendly agreement between Panera and Davlyn Investments. The agreement comes as Davlyn Investments begins remodeling work at the much anticipated La Plaza, La Jolla.

According to local sources, Panera is exploring the possibility of relocating to the UTC area, and the current 36 employees are being given the opportunity to transfer to another location.

As a favorite spot for a quick lunch-break, some of our staff members at La Jolla Blue Book were saddened by the news. What are your thoughts? Are you sad to see Panera Bread go? Where will you go to now to get your bagels and/or lunch?

Don’t forget about the other local sandwich, cafe-bekery options just around the corner from Panera Bread, like Girard Gourmet.

This has been true for the 77 years we’ve been around because of the great local businesses that have advertised with us for many years.  To pay tribute to the long-standing relationships we have with local businesses, we have dug into our archives and compiled their original ads with the ads of today, to see how far we’ve come.
