Owner Thayne Yungman, known for various works of art personally handcrafts all of the custom frames and makes it a point to stock his store with some of the more thought-provoking and unique arts and crafts he can find, all for your pleasure.

Historically speaking, Vicki Ford and her husband Jay launched the Gallery at Land’s End as a custom framing shop and art gallery in 1973. What originally was a small business ran out of an old homey bungalow in Pacific Beach, art gallery has blossomed into a cherished community favorite featuring locally-fashioned crafts, jewelry, and art. The charming diminutive shop is rife with a colorful history as well as heart. Having had but two owners since opening, those involved with the gallery have seen and helped it through in excess of 40 years of adaptation, evolution, and various ups and downs. Current owner, Thayne Yungman, was once a faithful employee of Vicki until 2008, when he made a no-brainer decision to purchase the iconic business. Since then, Thayne has been working to increase the local profile and artistic image of Gallery at Land’s End.

Meet the Artists at La Playa Art Gallery Opening

La Playa art gallery will be hosting a grand opening from 4-9pm this Saturday. Artists featured in the gallery will be in-house for the event along with wine and cheese. This is an intimate occasion for La Jolla patrons to meet with local artists and ask them questions about their style, inspiration and background face-to-face.

The gallery has been open on 2226 Avenida de la Playa by the Shores since May, servicing tourists and the summertime crowds. Now that this training period is over, La Playa is interested in showing off its gallery to the locals of La Jolla. Continue reading

Celebrate the Summer with Haute La Jolla Nights

Nights are heating up in La Jolla with live music, art events and shopping and dining deals throughout the Village! This past Saturday was the 2013 debut of Haute La Jolla nights and was the perfect way to kick off summertime in La Jolla.

The event featured live concerts in more than nine locations throughout the Village. Some of San Diego’s top musicians could be heard playing everything from jazz and blues to country and rock and roll. Visitors also had the chance to browse through a variety of La Jolla art galleries that opened their doors and presented exciting new exhibits, specifically for the Haute La Jolla Nights event.

A handful of La Jolla restaurants and merchants also participated. Guests enjoyed dinner and drink specials as well as a variety of discounts, deals and demonstrations from shops that extended their hours for Haute La Jolla Nights visitors. There were even chances to win fantastic prizes including La Jolla hotel stays, spa days, romantic dinners and more.

Couldn’t make it to the first Haute La Jolla Nights? Don’t worry, there are still 5 more events through November. The next is on June 22 with events following on July 27, August 17, September 14 and November 16. All events will take place from 6:00-9:00pm and each is absolutely free.
