If you wake up and are dying for new and creative breakfast options but just don’t know where to go, we’ve created a list of ten must-tries for breakfast in La Jolla.
Located on Fay, The Cottage offers countless options for breakfast, and even an option for breakfast later in the day from 11:30 AM until 3:00 PM, Mondays thru Fridays. The Cottage offers traditional breakfast favorites such as Classic French Toast and traditional Eggs Benedict, but it also offers new twists on the classics. Be daring and try the Crabcakes Benedict or the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. You won’t be sorry you did.
Whisknladle, on Wall St, offers a delicious brunch until 3 PM. Their brunch menu is a mix between really updated breakfast classics, like the French toast with sausage, roasted onions, watercress, fried egg, and maple-Dijon vinaigrette, and lunch options to satisfy those that crave lunch. Lunch options vary from yummy fresh salads to fried fish tacos with pickled toppings served on a corn tortilla.
3. Harry’s Coffee Shop
Harry’s Coffee Shop serves classic breakfast daily from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM for those early-risers. Harry’s gives off that cozy family diner feel, while serving up a variety of food like their “ummlettes,” pancakes and waffles, smoothies, you name it! A tip for those new to Harry’s, ask for one of their giant cinnamon buns, they’re about as good as they come.
4. Mission Coffee Cup
Mission Coffee Cup on Wall St is the perfect breakfast spot. It offers breakfast classics with Asian and Mexican influences. If available, try the blueberry, papaya and coconut pancakes. If you want savory, try the eggs with soy chorizo, black beans and flour tortillas, a cool spin on classic huevos rancheros.
5. Come On In
When you walk into Come On In, you can immediately ignore the bustling traffic on Torrey Pines Road and instead feel instantly cozy and relaxed from this little café. You can sip on fresh squeezed juices and smoothies, enjoy a breakfast burrito or blueberry corn meal pancakes. My go-to order is definitely the Mediterranean scramble, two steamed eggs, basil, feta and tomato served with a side of fresh fruit and toast.
6. Pannikin Coffee and Tea
You can find Pannikin on Girard with an assortment of people outside on its patio. This is also a great place for early risers as it opens at 6:00 AM Monday-Friday and 6:30 Saturday-Sunday. Pannikin prides itself in its fresh roasted coffee and exotic tea blends, as well as its healthy, freshly baked pastries and other organic special food options.
7. Museum Café By Giuseppe
Museum Café is just that, a European café located in San Diego’s Museum of Contemporary Art on Prospect. The Museum Café is open for breakfast daily from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. They also offer brunch on weekends. Indulge in one of their creative scrambles, such as the Prime “Oak Smoked” Salmon Scramble, filled with caramelized onions, tomatoes and fresh dill. They also offer Mimosas and Bloody Marys for a fun, morning cocktail. Weekend brunch is offered from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.E
8. Cody’s La Jolla
Cody’s La Jolla is special in that it serves breakfast and lunch all day from 9:00 AM-3 PM on weekdays and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekends. Located between Girard and Coast Blvd, this breakfast spot makes delicious chicken and biscuits, chilaquiles, and other yummy options. They also offer healthy options like the healthy breakfast salad, veggie hash and Javi’s maple nut granola so you don’t have to leave feeling too guilty about the awesome meal you just had.
9. Brockton Villa Restaurant
Brockton Villa Restaurant in La Jolla has a killer view of the cove, and an even killer breakfast menu! With creative menu items like the Naughty Burrito and the Nice Burrito and satisfying egg options like the Crab Ipanema Benedict, the Local’s Favorite, this menu is sure to make the whole group happy.
10. Bibby’s Crepe Café
If you want some French-inspired fare, Bibby’s Crepe Café between Eads and Draper offers countless crepe options in both savory and sweet to satisfy both ends of the spectrum. They also offer other options like Belgian waffles and omeletes amongst other things. On the savory side, try the baby brie and spinach crepe. For sweet, anything with nutella is sure to make your taste buds happy.
