Blah, Blah, Blah by Mel Bochner: Murals of La Jolla’s Newest Addition

The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library has announced the newest member of the Murals of La Jolla family! Blah, Blah, Blah, by Mel Bochner at 1111 Prospect Street is set to be fully completed by Thursday, May 14 and will be included on the next Murals of La Jolla monthly tour (Wednesday May 27 at 5:30pm). The mural replaces Ryan McGinness’ 53 Women, which has been on display since 2011 on the back side of the former Hotel Parisi building.

Summer Jazz Series at the La Jolla Athenaeum Begins June 4

The Athenaeum’s jazz program continues with the annual summer series starting June 4! Farrell Family Jazz at the La Jolla Athenaeum features an international piano series by four acclaimed jazz artists from the United States, Canada, Germany, and Cuba. All concerts will be held in the Joan & Irwin Jacobs Music Room of the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library at 7:30pm, and tickets are on sale now.

The Athenaeum’s Flicks on the Bricks 2014 Schedule

The Athenaeum’s Flicks on the Bricks series is back for the seventh year and kicks off this Thursday, August 7 with classic movies and wines on the patio of the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library. Wine expert Barbara Baxter will introduce the wine that will be paired with each movie, then you’ll be able to kick back and enjoy some classic movies, snacks, and a relaxing balmy evening in La Jolla.

La Jolla Spotlight – Athenaeum Music & Arts Library

A must-see San Diego, California attraction located in the heart of La Jolla, the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library is one of only 16 nonprofit membership libraries in the United States.

Unique even in a town where everything is special, this rare cultural institution offers a depth and accessibility of resources and programs found nowhere else in the region.

The library, devoted exclusively to music and art, has an outstanding and ever-expanding collection of books, periodicals, reference material, compact discs, videocassettes, DVDs, sheet music, and librettos, as well as one of the most significant collections of artists’ books in Southern California. The library is open to the public five days a week; members can check out materials for a modest annual fee.

The Athenaeum also presents an eclectic, year-round schedule of art exhibitions, concerts (classical, jazz, and new music), lectures, studio art classes through its School of the Arts, tours and special events.
