Tucked away in a corner shop on Ivanhoe street, you’ll find a quaint clothing boutique filled with pretty day dresses, tops, and skirts in bold prints and pastel hues. Swoon Collection swooped into town in December and has quickly established itself as a unique addition to the women’s boutiques in La Jolla. This trendy shop has everything a fashionista could possibly want: shoes, dresses, flowy tops and locally designed jewelry. La Jolla Blue Book stepped inside to chat with owner Kate Yetman to experience her trendy new La Jolla shopping destination.
Meet the Owner
Kate Yetman grew up in Boston and spent summers in Cape Cod. She visited California when she was 12 years old and since then she’s always had a place in her heart for the Golden State. Kate worked in the corporate world behind a cubicle and knew that eventually she wanted to be her own boss and have a business. She fell in love with fashion when she traveled down under to Sydney, Australia. She brought her inspiration back to Massachusetts and opened her first Swoon Collection boutique in Cape Cod. After establishing her business, she decided to head west, towards the beach and sun to settle in La Jolla.
She chose to open a shop in La Jolla because of the similarities to Cape Cod. Both are coastal cities with women who love their fashion. “My experience with La Jolla is that the people are warm and welcoming,” said Kate. What sets Kate apart from other boutiques is that she’s there all day everyday, wants to grow relationships with locals, and provides the best customer service possible. She caters to women of all ages and said, “I’ve had customers as young as 14 and as old as 90.”
Every little detail of her shop has been either handcrafted or designed by Kate. The jewelry bar was a re-purposed barn door and the clothing racks are old pipes. We loved the specially constructed wall of crates showcasing four spring must-have outfits! When Kate first opened Cape Cod store in 2012, her goal to provide the ability to shop designer styles without draining wallets. A dress averages between $50-$60, which is a great deal for La Jolla. She features southern California designers BB Dakota, d.RA, local jewelry designer Ashley Torrey, and so much more. Kate describes her shop as trendy yet effortlessly timeless.
Kate hopes to launch a grand opening in the next few months, and La Jolla Blue Book will share all of the upcoming details! Swoon Collection is located on 7910 Ivanhoe Street, next door to Mary’s English Kitchen and Hi Sweetheart, and will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. If you live in La Jolla, mention that you are a local and receive 10% off! Swoon Collection will have events with cookies, goodies and drinks for customers and locals; make sure to follow them on Facebook for any upcoming events. For more info, visit swooncollection.com.
