The La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest is back during the month of August and is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year! Join musicians and fellow music lovers to witness 65 world-class artists and ensembles; the festival runs from August 3-26, 2016. This August is dedicated to performances around La Jolla, including the Sherwood Auditorium and Athenaeum Music & Arts Library.
This week, there are three must see performances. On August 9, check out the first performance of the “An Evening With” series with legendary violinist Pinchas Zukerman. Wednesday night celebrates the greats with 1824-1942: Richard, Robert, & Ludwig. As the week comes to a close, the Viannese Giants brings Vienna, one of the musical capitals of the world, to La Jolla. All of this week’s performances will take place at the Sherwood Auditorium and begin at 8 p.m.
The festival not only features world-renowned artists, but also a variety of events you won’t want to miss. There will be several FREE workshops to attend that will cover classic musical compositions from Brahms’ Piano Trio in B Major, Opus 8 to Beethoven’s Piano Trio in E-flat Major, Opus 70, No. 2. SummerFest asks guests to please arrive 10 minutes early to the workshops as there is limited seating.
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, SummerFest is hosting a gala on Saturday, August 13. The evening will be hosted on the grounds of Rancho del Arte, the home of Matthew and Iris Strauss.
