We’re heading into another beautiful San Diego weekend, and there’s no shortage of activities to keep you busy. From Kaaboo Del Mar to extreme car racing and the largest powerboat race in the nation, you’ll want to check some of these out! Here are our top San Diego weekend events.
When: Sept 16 – Sept 18
Where: Mission Bay Park; 1404 Vacation Rd., San Diego
What: Bayfair is San Diego’s largest annual family festival and sports competition, and attracts race fans from all over the world. It’s famous for its family festival atmosphere, interactive exhibits, vendors and specialty foods, nightly live entertainment, and the big Saturday night fireworks extravaganza. Bayfair attracts more powerboat racing classes than any other site in the world – this year there are 150 high competition teams, some racing at speeds over 225 miles per hour!
When: Sept 16-18
Where: Del Mar Fairgrounds; 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar
What: KAABOO is three days of fun, packed full with memories and it has all of the makings of a great event. They promise plenty of shade and seating, clean restrooms, with and there is no dirt, dust or mud to fight through just to have a good time! Enjoy world-class music, hilarious comedy, incredible cuisine, craft libations, inspiring contemporary art, and personal indulgences including an entire spa/salon section. This isn’t an event to miss!
When: Sept 17, 12pm-4pm
Where: South Park; starting at 3009 Grape St, San Diego 92104
What: With purchase of a Tasting Passport, guests can sup and sip their way along the 30th St and Fern St corridor, sampling bites from all participating South Park brick-and-mortar eateries, featuring local and national award-winning locations! As a bonus, guests will get a taste of the diverse boutiques and shops lining the streets between bites. Hallmarked by an eclectic group of restaurants, bars and pubs, and coffee houses, this is a spot you’ll want to explore!
When: Sept 17; 10am-5pm
Where: Camino Ruiz, from Mira Mesa Blvd. to New Salem Street
What: One of Mira Mesa’s busiest streets will transform into a blocks-long festival featuring entertainment on two stages, international food, a carnival, crafts and game, children’s activities, and a beer garden near the music stage for those of you 21 and older. This is the festival’s 18th annual year! Admission is free.
When: Sept 17; 11am-2pm
Where: NTC Park at Liberty Station
What: Ever wondered who makes the best pizza in San Diego? The San Diego Gourmet Pizza Fest at NTC Park at Liberty Station is here to help you answer that question – it will showcase top-notch pizza from local restaurants, plus craft beer and live music. Attendees and a panel of judges will rate the slices to ultimately determine who makes the most delicious pizza in America’s Finest City. Tickets are $35 (includes seven beer samples and one pizza sample from each participating eatery).
When: Sept 18; 8am-5pm
Where: Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado 92118
What: Coronado Speed Festival is Fleet Week San Diego’s marquee event, featuring fast-paced, thrilling auto racing and exhibitions for car enthusiasts of all ages at one of the most distinctive race track locations – Naval Air Station North Island. Nowhere else can you see a variety of cars racing on a live runway used by the U.S. Navy! The event’s Grand Marshall this year is Gary Sinise of Forrest Gump fame.
