It’s Mother’s Day Weekend in San Diego, and there’s plenty to keep Mom and the whole family busy – rain or shine! Paella and wine, the continuation of Cinco de Mayo festivities, and a Chocolate Festival for all those chocolate-lovers out there. Please be sure to check ticket availability prior to each event, as some of these events will sell out!
When: Saturday May 7 & Sunday May 8, 11am-10pm
Where: Old Town State Historic Park; 4002 Wallace St, San Diego 92110
What: The annual Fiesta Old Town Cinco de Mayo will transform Old Town into the largest Cinco de Mayo celebration north of the border, filled with mariachis, cervezas, great food, and more! The Fiesta will feature four stages with live entertainment, over 40 bands, including vibrant, traditional ballet folklorico performances, and several restaurants and tequilerias.
When: Saturday May 7, 12pm-6pm
Where: San Diego Waterfront Park; 1600 Pacific Hwy, San Diego 92101
What: If you love paella, this is the festival for you! Come and enjoy the 2016 San Diego Paella & Wine Festival will feature the largest Paella ever made in California, with unlimited tasting paella donated by Vicente from Don Chente! There will also be dozens of local wineries, breweries and tequilerias with unlimited tasting wine, beer and spirits (for all tickets including alcohol) and live music (mariachi, flamenco).
When: Saturday May 7, 10am-4pm
Where: San Diego Botanic Garden; 230 Quail Gardens Dr., Encinitas
What: Spend the Saturday before Mother’s Day with Mom and family at San Diego Botanic Garden’s famous Chocolate Festival! Enjoy dozens of delectable chocolate tastings, demonstrations, a chocolate fountain, and more. This family-friendly event also features lots of children’s activities and a variety of Mother’s Day gifts. Tasting tickets will be sold on-site.
When: Saturday May 7, 4pm-7pm
Where: Westfield UTC; 4545 La Jolla Village Dr, San Diego 92122
What: Enjoy a self-guided wine walk to 4 wine gardens throughout Westfield UTC! Inside each garden will be 3 wineries and 1-2 restaurants. You will receive unlimited bites and (10) 1oz pours, a branded tasting glass, a tasting guide and a gift bag filled with retailer offers and giveaways. Enjoy live music during the event by local San Diego artists from Westfield UTC’s Plaza Unplugged.
When: Sunday May 8, 11am-4pm
Where: Historical Association; 1100 Orange Ave, Coronado 92118
What: Each Mother’s Day the Coronado Historical Association hosts the annual Historical Home Tour. This year the theme is “Coronado Homes by the Sea.” You are invited into six beautifully designed and appointed homes, each representing architectural styles of a life by the sea. Homes will be available for touring from 11am until 4pm. Tickets can be purchased at cornadohistory.org. $40 members, $45 non-members.
