What: Join a Community Celebration in Balboa Park to honor the San Diego Zoo’s 100th birthday with a roar! They’re taking the party to Balboa Park so all of San Diego can participate in this once-in-a-lifetime centennial event, which is free to everyone – with music, food, crafts, performers, dancers, our animal ambassadors, and some very special guests. They have a few surprises in store!

What: OB’s very own Kite Festival returns for its 68th year! There will be kite building and decorating, prizes, professional kite fliers, kite demonstrations and games, crafters, community organizations, gourmet food, carnival activities and a local favorite band, Beer Feat. The little ones will be taught how to make and fly their own kites; all materials supplied – there will be prizes at the end.

What: Join the Reader in their continued search to find the best taco at the 2nd Annual Tacotopia. Try signature tacos from more than 40 of the best restaurants as they compete to win the “Best Taco” award. Curated exclusively by food writers, this event brings together the very best taco vendors – and you decide who will ultimately win. Each attendee will be given a token to place in a voting box on the table of their favorite vendor. The vendor who receives the most tokens wins.

Where: Vista Village District
What: Join your fellow craft beer aficionados in the heart of Vista Village to celebrate San Diego’s world renowned brewing culture. You’ll have the opportunity to sample over 100 brews from over 50 of the county’s award-winning breweries, all while enjoying musical performances from three bands. The festival focuses on bringing the nation’s most popular craft beers together with talented musicians in an outdoor festival located in the historic Vista Village district.

What: Every spring, the La Jolla Historical Society extends a rare invitation to the public to stroll behind the garden gates of some of La Jolla’s loveliest, secluded gardens, normally concealed from view by strategic growth of mature trees, vines or foliage. The Tour features a variety of garden styles – everything from large estate gardens to intimate cottage-style, romantic Mediterranean, and formal French and English gardens. The locations are kept secret and only revealed in the program distributed the day of the Tour.
