We know Comic-Con is stealing the show in San Diego this weekend, but for those of you who aren’t donning a badge (and a costume), there are plenty of other events happening around town! A Del Mar Racing kickoff party and a specialty craft beer festival are just a few highlights of our San Diego weekend events guide. What: Kick off the racing season in style with the 78th Annual Del Mar Racing Kickoff Party at Club M at The Grand Del Mar. This coveted A-List race revelry is attended by SoCal socialites, horse racing enthusiasts, celebrity jockeys and members of the exclusive Turf Club and Grand Del Mar. Enjoy a lavish Hat & Fashion Showcase, Derby Dolls, art display, live music, DJ, dancing and a chance to score the Best Dressed prizes and tickets to Opening Day!

What: The 3rd Annual Heroes Brew Craft Beer Festival is back for more costumed craft beer craziness! Show your appreciation for America’s true heroes by dawning your superhero studs and joining the Warrior Foundation-Freedom Station and 40 craft brewers for an afternoon of music, food trucks, prizes, raffles and over 100 craft beers.
When: Thursday July 9 – Sunday July 12
Where: San Diego Convention Center; 111 W. Harbor Drive, San Diego 92101
What: Comic-Con is the largest comics and pop culture event in the United States, attracting thousands of artists, celebrities and fans of comic books, movie memorabilia and all things related to pop culture. Along with panels, seminars, and workshops with comic book professionals, there are previews of upcoming feature films, review sessions with top comic book and video game companies; a costume contest, and the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival.
When: Saturday July 11 & Sunday July 12, 7:30am-6pm
Where: Fiesta Island; 1590 E Mission Bay Drive, San Diego 92109
What: OTL serves as the primary fundraising source for OMBAC’s year-round charitable programs. With worldwide competition, OTL began as a San Diego original, played by men and women into their 80’s. It is one of the last pure Southern California traditions left! OMBAC is continuing to enjoy the respect and admiration of the community. Focused on serving amateur sports and youth athletics, all profits from OTL goes back into the community.
When: Saturday July 11, 7am-5pm
Where: Moonlight Beach; 252 5th Street, Encinitas 92024
What: The 11th Annual Switchfoot Bro-Am beach day will feature a surf contest, live music performances, and nerf surf jousting exposition between surf contest heats. The Bro-Am was created to give back to the San Diego community while benefiting local children’s charities.
