The weekend of the highly-anticipated Super Bowl Sunday has finally arrived, and although pretty much everyone’s Sunday afternoon will be spent indoors next to a TV screen, there’s a lot going on Friday and Saturday in the city! Local Ales & Acoustics
When: Saturday Jan 31, 2pm-6pm
Where: Herringbone; 7837 Herschel Ave, La Jolla 92037
What: Herringbone’s first Local Ales and Acoustics event of 2015 kicks off with Mother Earth Brew Company and live musical performances from 2-6 p.m. In the back bar and lounge area, taste four beer selections on tap from Mother Earth alongside their midday menu offerings, including all flatbread and salad items. Local artists Jake Taylor Smith and Sister Speak will be playing as guests bask in the La Jolla breeze. Stop by Herringbone to relax and enjoy this awesome event!
San Diego Black Film Festival
When: Friday Jan 30 – Sunday Feb 1
Where: Reading Cinemas; 701 5th Ave, San Diego 92101
What: The San Diego Black Film Festival is one of the largest black film festivals in the country. It was founded in 2003, and people from all over southern California and even across the US attend the festival every year. The festival’s motto is “Spotlight on African American and African Diaspora Cinema.” The San Diego Black film festival was created in order to preserve African American film, and showcases some of the most promising talent in the filmmaking industry with more than 100 showings every year.
Monster Jam 2015
When: Saturday Jan 31, 7pm-10pm
Where: Petco Park; 100 Park Boulevard, San Diego 92101
What: Monster Jam is one of the world’s largest and most famous monster truck tour featuring some of the biggest names in monster trucks, including Grave Digger, Maximum Destruction, Monster Mutt, El Toro Loco, Captain’s Curse and Blue Thunder. Tickets start at $35 and can be purchased at their official website, monsterjam.com.
2015 Cardiff Kook Run
When: Sunday Feb 1, 8am-12pm
Where: 485 S Coast Highway 101, Encinitas 92024
What: The Cardiff Kook Run 5K, 10K and Costume Contest is a celebration of one of the greatest community in the most amazing town on the map – and remember, it’s on Super Bowl Sunday! The course starts under the world famous “Encinitas” sign on historic HWY 101 in beautiful Encinitas, California. This scenic loop passes by the famous “Cardiff Kook” statue (The Magic Carpet Ride), rises above some of the most popular surf breaks in the world and heads down to Cardiff State Beach.
Super Bowl Sunday at Regents Pizzeria
When: Sunday Feb 1, 3pm
Where: Regents Pizzeria; 4150 Regents Park Row, Suite 100, San Diego
What: Looking for a place to enjoy the game this Sunday? Take your family and friends to Regents Pizza in the UTC area!
