It’s the last weekend in February, and there’s plenty to do to stay busy in San Diego this weekend – despite the possible less-than-stellar weather! We’ve got the roundup of the best San Diego weekend events right here.

The Chinese New Year Red Ball: Year of the Sheep

When: Friday Feb 27, 7pm-11:45pm
Where: Club M at the Grand Del Mar; 5200 Grand Del Mar Way, San Diego 92130
What: Usher in the Chinese New Year at The Annual Red Ball held at Club M inside the Grand Del Mar, California’s luxurious 15-Star Resort! The Year of the Sheep recurs once every twelve years in the Lunar calendar, and symbolizes peace and compassion. At this coveted 21 & up Lunar New Year party, guests will enjoy award-winning hospitality, live music, DJ, dancing and more. Red cocktail attire is suggested for good luck. “Lucky” Happy Hour begins at 4pm and the live entertainment begins at 7pm.

Family ArtLAB: Absurd Art

When: Saturday Feb 28, 2pm-4pm
Where: MCASD La Jolla; 700 Prospect St, La Jolla 92037
What: Take part in a Look/Explore tour and let Gallery Educators lead you and your family in lively conversation about the newest exhibition Laugh-in: Art, Comedy, Performance. Following your gallery exploration, enjoy an improv workshop and learn how to create absurd animated GIFs. The program is recommended for families with children ages five and older. Tickets are $15 for nonmembers (free for members) and price includes admission and materials for two adults and up to three youth.

Carlsbad Flower Fields Opening Day

When: Sunday March 1, 9am-6pm
Where: 5704 Paseo Del Norte, Carlsbad, CA 92008
What: For over sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of North San Diego County into one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world. The nearly fifty acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that make up The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch are in bloom for approximately ten weeks each year. The Flower Fields cover a rolling hillside overlooking the Pacific Coast, and is located halfway between Orange County and San Diego. Admission is $12/adult.

San Diego Pet Expo

When: Saturday Feb 28, 10am-6pm
Where: Del Mar Fairgrounds; 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar 92014
What: The San Diego Pet Expo is back this weekend! Society Cabaret La Jolla
