Check out the San Diego weekend events for February 20-22 — from Balboa Park‘s “Rock in the Park” concert series to Winter Brew Fest, The Tet Festival in Mira Mesa, and an Oscar Party in North Park.
San Diego Winter Brew Fest
When: Friday Feb 20 – Saturday Feb 21, 6pm-10pm
Where: San Diego Hall of Champions; 2131 Pan American Plaza, San Diego 92101
What: The San Diego Winter Brew Fest will celebrate craft beverages from around California and beyond and features; live local music, food, and other vendors. This event benefits Outdoor Outreach and the San Diego Mountain Bike Association. Warm up with tastings of some of the best brews available throughout the night – souvenir glass included!
Rock in the Park: Venice
When: Friday Feb 20, 7pm-9pm
Where: Reuben H. Fleet Science Center; 1875 El Prado Balboa Park, San Diego 92101
What: The Reuben H. Fleet Center presents its first concert of the season with the band Venice. Venice’s trademarks are incredible harmonies, personal lyrics, and high-energy shows. Their hybrid of rock/pop/soul is alive and still growing, with many fans worldwide considering them the torchbearers of Southern California sound. They hail from Venice Beach, CA, and consist of two sets of brothers. Food, beer, wine, and cocktails will be available for purchase while you listen to the show.
San Diego Improv Festival
When: Friday Feb 20 – Sunday Feb 22
Where: Finest City Improv; 4250 Louisiana St., North Park
What: This annual festival delivers some of the top talent from all over the nation to both perform and teach improvisation. With performances that keep audiences in hysterics, and workshops available for attendees, the festival emphasizes laughing, learning, and performing. Tickets are $15 per show block and can be purchased online at sdimprovfestival.com.
San Diego Tết Festival
When: Friday Feb 20 – Sunday Feb 22, 11am-10pm
Where: Mira Mesa Community Park; 8575 New Salem Street, San Diego 92126
What: Come out to celebrate the Vietnamese New Year, or Tết Nguyên Đán! The festival, which attracts 20,000 people each year, promises fun for whole the family with such activities as carnival rides and games, authentic Vietnamese food, lion dancing and firecrackers. There will also be multiple entertainment programs, such as the Miss Vietnam of San Diego, and a Cultural Village to immerse yourself in Vietnamese culture.
Chinese New Year Food & Cultural Fair
When: Saturday Feb 21 – Sunday Feb 22, 10am-4pm
Where: 404 3rd Ave, San Diego 92101
What: Come out and celebrate the auspicious year ahead at the Free Chinese New Year Food and Cultural Fair, at 3rd and J St. downtown. This is a FREE two-day event packed with various cultural performance including lion dancers, martial arts demonstrations and acrobatics, children’s crafts, lantern parade and a wide variety of Chinese and Asian food booths. Free activities will be offered, including paper lantern making, wood block printing, and calligraphy.
Old Hollywood Hits North Park
When: Sunday, February 22, 4pm
Where: Wang’s North Park; 3029 University Ave, San Diego 92104
What: Award season is almost over, but for those who want to experience the magic of Old Hollywood for the 87th Annual Academy Awards here in San Diego, Wang’s North Park is hosting an Oscars Viewing Party on Sunday, February 22! Tickets are $35 per person. Entry includes a buffet dinner, complimentary champagne, raffles and $500 in cash and prizes for ballot contest winners.
