Where: MCASD La Jolla, Sherwood Auditorium
What: It’s Opening Night of the La Jolla Music Society‘s SummerFest 2016. Travel to Bohemia for our Opening Night as Music Director Cho-Liang Lin leads this celebratory evening with acclaimed pianist Jon Kimura Parker, violin virtuoso Martin Beaver, principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic Carter Brey, rising stars – the Danish String Quartet, and other great SummerFest artists in an all-Czech program. Join Janáček, Smetana and Dvořák for an opening night to remember!
When: Saturday, Aug 6; 4pm-7:30pm
Where: Living Coast Discovery Center; 1000 Gunpowder Point Dr, Chula Vista
What: Now in its seventh year, Farm to Bay is a unique tasting event on San Diego Bay that supports coastal wildlife, education, and sustainability at the Living Coast Discovery Center. With more than 40 different food and beverage partners and a sold-out crowd, Farm to Bay is the only local fundraiser held on a national wildlife refuge. Enjoy delicious culinary delights and raise money for a good cause too!
When: Friday, Aug 5 & Saturday, Aug 6
Where: Menghini Winery in Julian
What: Stargaze this weekend at one of the best spots in the county! Take a star tour of the heavens using one of the telescopes that will be set up. Experts will be on hand to answer questions about what you’re looking at and about the telescopes. The festival will be held at Menghini Winery, and includes a free public Star Party on Saturday night, astronomy-related exhibition areas, guest speakers presenting on astronomy-related subjects, a swap meet, and a raffle.
When: Sunday, Aug 7; 5pm-7pm
Where: San Diego Botanic Garden
What: Spend the evening listening to the sounds of the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame Orchestra perform to the music of Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Count Baise, Artie Shaw, Stan Kenton and many more. Chairs will be provided, and there will be light fare, snacks, and beverages available for purchase. You’re also welcome to bring you’re own picnic lunch.
When: Sunday, Aug 7; 10am-5pm
Where: 353 Third Avenue, Chula Vista
What: The Chula Vista Lemon Festival returns for its 20th year this weekend! The festival will span Third Avenue, from E to G Street. Celebrate Chula Vista’s reign as the Lemon Capital of the World with live bands, hundreds of vendor booths, Festival Fun Zone, craft beer garden and of course, everything lemon.
