The Jewish holiday of Purim starts at sundown on Tuesday, March 3 and San Diego is getting in on the fun with parties and carnivals planned through the weekend to help celebrate this joyous holiday.
What is Purim? Purim celebrates the salvation of the Jewish people in the ancient Persian Empire through the leadership of Queen Esther, as recorded in the Biblical Book of Esther.
Customs during Purim include wearing masks & costumes, public readings of the Book of Esther, feasting, and eating hamantaschen (pictured above), a sweet triangular pastry.
