San Diego 4th of July Events & Fireworks
Picnics, barbeques, beach and park trips all remain 4th of July traditions in La Jolla & San Diego. What better way to end a weekend of fun with family and friends than with a gorgeous fireworks display! We are giving you the run down of all the great local 4th of July events and fireworks shows in San Diego so you’re sure to enjoy your holiday weekend. So grab some sunscreen and friends and enjoy the gorgeous San Diego sun and activities!
4th of July Celebration on the USS Midway
July 4 from 6-9:30p
USS Midway Museum located at 910 N. Harbor Drive
There will be plenty of activities for the kids, optional flight simulators, a gift shop, Midway carnival style games and live musical entertainment until the fireworks show at 9 pm.
San Diego County Fair 2011
July 4th is the last day that the fair will be in town so come and enjoy the concerts, rides, exhibits, food and fun before it’s gone until next year. July 4th will start with a patriotic Opening Ceremony about 9:30AM at the O’Brien Gate. The Grandstand Stage show will start at 7:30pm with a performance by the fabulous Navy Band Southwest, a Fourth of July tradition since 1993. The fireworks display will begin at 9:00 pm following the concert.
Independence Day in Old Town San Diego
July 4 at Old Town State Historical Park from 11am-4pm
Enjoy an old fashioned 4th of July celebration with a parade, crafts and activities of early San Diego. Wagon rides, period games, music, food specials, pie eating contest and much more are included in this afternoon of family-fun.
Rancho Santa Fe Independence Day Concert on the Green
July 4 at 1:30 pm near the Inn
Patriotic music will be performed along with other popular songs. Bring chairs or blankets for seating, wear your red-white-and blue and be ready to celebrate the day. This is a free concert with food and beverages available for purchase.
FIREWORKS!!!
Fireworks have been a part of Independence Day since the first celebration in 1777. In just a few days the skies will come alive with fireworks in celebration of the 4th of July. Here are the details for the main shows this year…
La Jolla Cove Fireworks
July 4 starting at 9 pm
The La Jolla fireworks have been a tradition for a quarter century! There will be a concert at Ellen Browning Scripps Park at 5 pm which will feature a trombonist and Marine Corp band. Fireworks will begin at 9 pm from nearby La Jolla Cove behind the grandstand. The fireworks can be best viewed from Ellen Browning Scripps Park as well as La Jolla Shores and Kellogg Park.
San Diego Bay – Big Bay Boom
July 4 starting at 9 pm
The Big Bay Boom Fireworks Show is back for its eleventh year, promising another spectacular display over San Diego Bay. It is expected to be the largest fireworks display show in San Diego. More than 750,000 people are expected to come to the waterfront to watch this stunning show so come early and get a good seat. The impeccably choreographed display will last approximately 17 minutes.
Mission Bay – Sea World
July 3-5 at 9:30 pm
Sea World’s “Into the Blue Fireworks” will be a beautiful extended display. Viewing is available along Crown Point and all around the Sea World and Mission Bay area

Brockton Villa Restaurant
Before the famous annual La Jolla Cove Fireworks Show, the restaurant will host a 4th of July party, including a hosted “Brocktail” reception on the patio with passed hors d’oeuvres followed by a gourmet BBQ dinner buffet.
