Old Globes ‘Grinch’ Offers Autism-Friendly Performance

UPDATE (11/5/14): The Grinch returns to the stage this year with performances starting on November 15th. The Globe’s Sensory-Friendly performance this year will be on December 13 at 10:30 a.m. 11 a.m. matinee performances are open to ALL AGES. Everyone must have a ticket. Children under age 3 will not be admitted except during 11 a.m. performances.

Christmas time is in the air, and what other perfect way to celebrate the holidays is there then by seeing the Old Globes production of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Returning for its 16th year, the family friendly play will begin performances on Saturday, November 16th.

The performance will have a few adjustments including fewer loud noises, fewer flashing lights, a quiet zone in the lobby in case a child needs to step out, house lights kept on at a low level, and the removal of fog & snow effects. The Old Globe theater is offering a “Meet Your Seat” experience where families can visit  the theater and familiarize themselves with the venue. There is also a social story on their website that shares photos of Balboa Park, The Globe Plaza, the theatre, lobbies, restrooms and scenes from the show.
