Meanley and Son Ace Hardware…Not Just a Hardware Store

meanley and son ace hardware
While many know Meanley and Son Ace Hardware as their local La Jolla hardware store and the go-to place to pop in and pick up household tools, Meanley’s actually has so much more to offer. From special services to new, creative paints and even cookware, Meanley’s is not only a staple in every La Jollan’s life, but a real treat.

The History

Meanley & Son’s was founded in 1948 by Nackey Scripps Meanley, the niece of the “mother of La Jolla,” Ellen Browning Scripps. While the store will celebrate its 66th anniversary this year, it is still run on the same values that Scripps instilled in her niece. In 1997, the hardware store teamed up with the ACE Hardware Co-op. in hopes to take a step toward modernizing the store.

Special Services

While the store offers traditional items found at a hardware store ranging from plumbing, electrical and lighting tools to lawn and garden supplies, Meanley’s also offers surprising and extremely helpful services to its customers. Meanley’s will not only sell you tools, but they are available to assemble each and every tool they sell. Have a tool or a knife that needs sharpening? Meanley’s will do that too. Want to get rid of pesky, worn-out batteries? Bring them in and they will dispose of them for you. And arguably the coolest feature, Meanley’s prides itself in its computerized paint color matching, which will match any item you bring in with the best paint color they offer.

OPI Nail Polish…in Paint?

Speaking of paints, Meanley’s boasts its extensive paint collection, ranging from outdoor paints to primers to stains. But, Meanley’s has new paints that are sure to excite women everywhere. Clark+Kensington has teamed up with popular nail polish brand, OPI, and now sell paints for your home in nail polish colors you love. Now you can get just as excited about painting your bedrooms as you can about painting your nails.

Giving Back

Although Meanley’s provides much needed services to the people of La Jolla, the store gives back to the community in more ways than one. When teaming up with Ace Hardware, Meanley’s adopted the Ace Foundation, which raises money for the sick and injured kids from Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The donations collected by Meanley’s go directly to the Children’s Hospital in San Diego.

Meanley’s has stood the test of time and maintained its importance to the La Jolla community because of its great service, products and family values. Next time you stop into Meanley’s, test out one of their cool and original services and help support your local hardware store.

Meanley & Son Ace Hardware is open 7 days a week and is located at 7756 Girard Av La Jolla, CA 92037.
