The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s (MCASD) exciting annual Monte Carlo fundraiser will be making a splash September 12 with a unique new theme, Monte Carlo: Glamping at the museum’s La Jolla location. “Glamping,” the term used to describe glamorous camping, is fitting for the event’s 39th year. The gala will take advantage of La Jolla’s beautiful end of summer weather, and will feature a cocktail party, silent auction, and dinner in line with the event’s outdoorsy theme while guests enjoy a sweeping view of the gorgeous ocean below. With a variety of unique aspects to this party, the night promises to be full of glamour, delicious food, and good company.
The Cocktail Party-6:30pm Jaw-harp and body percussionist Danny “Slapjazz” Barber will greet guests at the door and vocalist Celeste Barbier along with her parrot, Oiseau, will provide retro background music. Guests can sample a variety of hors d’oeuvres including delicious oysters, and wash them down with the French champagne Veuve Clicquot, while taking in the art showcased by the night’s Artist Ambassador, Matthew Mahoney.
The Dinner-8pm The music will move to another spectacular outdoor venue at MCASD where guests will dine under the stars, enjoying the food created by Chef Giuseppe Ciuffa of Giuseppe Restaurants & Fine Catering. MCASD also promises several “wild” surprises while the guests eat, so keep your eyes peeled for what they have planned.
The After Party-9:30pm DJ Man-Cat will pump the crowd up at the exclusive “Jungle Bash” after party, complete with a Sunset Tasting Garden for patrons to sample local rum from Malahat Spirits. If your feet get tired from all the dancing, guests can step outside and enjoy s’mores and cigars while taking a breather. Additionally, MCASD will feature a Diamond Ice Lounge for a more “VIP experience,” which will have desserts and liqueur tastings while Randy Beecher plays the piano to set the mood.
All proceeds from the 39th annual benefit, Monte Carlo: Glamping, will support MCASD’s education programs and exhibitions, allowing countless others to enjoy all that the museum has to offer for years to come. To purchase tickets to the event, visit the event’s MCASD page.
