Lace up your walking shoes, throw on your sunglasses and head to Mission Bay for a great cause. The 18th Annual Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) San Diego Muscle Walk 5K is set for Sunday, March 23 and hopes to raise $215,000. All of the proceeds benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties to help foster research and provide vital services to families affected by the neuromuscular disease.
Kids, grandparents, neighbors, co-workers and anyone else who can flex their heart muscles to fight against MDA is welcome! The MDA San Diego Muscle Walk 5K kicks off with registration, snacks, vendors, entertainment and a warm-up at 8:30 a.m. Meet at the starting line at 10 a.m. for the 5K walk and afterwards, celebrate your hard work with more goodies, giveaways, closing ceremonies and more.
Interested in starting your own team? All you have to do is recruit team members, set a dollar amount for each walker, provide informational packets, pump your team up and most importantly, have fun! For every walker that raises $100 or more, you will receive a t-shirt. Raise $250 or more and receive special recognition as a charter member of the MDA Circle of Strength and earn exclusive gifts in honor of your extraordinary efforts.
The MDA is a nonprofit health agency and its mission is dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association provides comprehensive health care, support services, advocacy, and education; it also facilitates hundreds of support groups for families affected by neuromuscular diseases and hosts local summer camp opportunities for thousands of kids living with muscular dystrophy.
The MDA San Diego Muscle Walk 5K will kick off at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 23 at Crown Point Park in Mission Bay. For more information, registration, to organize or join a team, and register as a virtual walker, visit musclewalkmda.org/sandiego2014.
