Summer is technically almost over, but that doesn’t mean the celebrations are! Outdoor summertime activities are still happening all over San Diego and La Jolla. From SummerFest to a gourmet food truck festival and snorkeling with leopard sharks, we’ve got everything you need to know listed right here. Summerfest: Music of Our Time

When: Friday August 15, 8pm – 10pm
Where: MCASD Sherwood Auditorium, 700 Prospect Street, La Jolla 92037

What: La Jolla la jolla weekend eventsMusic Society’s SummerFest is a nationally-recognized chamber music festival featuring over 81 world-class artists and ensembles performing concerts. This evening’s program features Ligeti, “Metamorphoses Nocturnes” (FLUX Quartet); Howard Shore and the world premiere of his newest work; Michael Daugherty “Viola Zombies” (Cynthia Phelps, Yura Lee, violas) and Julian Anderson, String Quartet. Tickets range from $45-$65.

Gourmet Food Truck Festival

When: Saturday August 16, 12pm – 6pm
Where: Del Mar Racetrack, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, San Diego 92101

la jolla weekend events What: Bring your appetite on Saturday as some of the tastiest food on wheels comes to Del Mar for the 4th annual Gourmet Food Truck Festival! Enjoy a variety of some of the hottest eats in San Diego as 50 gourmet food trucks (like The Grilled Cheese Truck & Cousins Maine Lobster) serve their bests at great prices – most items are just $4-$8. Admission is FREE to the Food Truck area with paid racetrack admission.

ArtWalk at Liberty Station

Where: 2645 Historic Decatur, San Diego 92106
What: ArtWalk San Diego is headed back to NTC @ Liberty Station for the ninth edition of the annual art festival and a weekend of art, food, live entertainment and fun. This year’s event will feature over 175 local, regional and international artists. Collectible and approachable art includes nearly every medium, from painting to sculpture, to photography, art glass, to ceramics and jewelry. An array of delicious street food will be available at the park as well as the popular “KidsWalk” area with interactive art activities for families.

Snorkel with the Leopard Sharks

When: Sunday August 17, 8am – 10pm
Where: Birch Aquarium at Scripps, 2300 Expedition Way, La Jolla 92037
What: Join aquarium naturalists and visit leopard sharks in their underwater home off the La Jolla Coast. Discover the abundant variety of animals that make their homes among the kelp, sandy bottom, and rocks. Intermediate swimming ability is required and previous snorkeling experience is recommended. Participants supply their own gear. Ages 10+. RSVP is required; call 858-534-7336 or visit aquarium.ucsd.edu.

21st Annual Luau & Legends of Surfing Invitational

Where: Scripps Pier, 8648 Kennel Way, La Jolla 92037
What: Now in its 21st year, the Luau and Legends of Surfing Invitational has raised more than $6 million to help transform cancer prevention and care at UCSD Moores Cancer Center. The fundraiser kicks off at 8 a.m. on the beach with a surfing tournament and the luau follows at noon with live music, traditional Polynesian dancing from the Heali’i’s Polynesian Revue, a tropical buffet, and live and silent auctions.
