Another exciting and event-filled weekend in La Jolla is upon us! Even though Comic Con is over, there’s a lot going on in and around San Diego – from La Jolla Music Society’s celebrated SummerFest to an international film festival, we’ve got it all listed right here. Check out these La Jolla weekend events and start planning!
First Annual Precious Pooch Contest
When: Friday August 1, 10am – 2pm
Where: La Jolla Community Center- 6811 La Jolla Blvd, La Jolla, CA 92037
What: The La Jolla Community Center is hosting their first annual dog contest! Enjoy a “wooftacular” day and visit exhibitor featuring dog accessories, food, toys, veterinary services and a dog contest. The event will benefit the LJCC and SNAP. The contest begins at 11:30am, and admission is free. Categories include: ugliest dog, best tail wagging, best terrific trick, best puppy, best senior dog, best original costume, and more!
25th Annual Clairemont Family Day
When: Saturday August 2, 8am – 5pm
Where: South Clairemont Recreation Center & Community Park; 3605 Clairemont Drive, San Diego 92117
What: Come join Clairemont’s largest annual celebration, a community event for people of all ages! Start your day with a delicious Pancake Breakfast served by the Clairemont Hills Kiwanis. Throughout the day there will be an assortment of entertainment and live music on the main stage. Food trucks will be serving a variety of cuisine, and kids can enjoy free pony rides, bumper cars, a swinging carousel, a scrambler, and other activities in the Carnival Zone.
SummerFest: Homage to Tchaikovsky
When: Saturday August 2, 8pm – 10pm
Where: MCASD Sherwood Auditorium; 700 Prospect St., La Jolla 92037
What: La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest is a nationally-recognized chamber music festival featuring over 81 world-class artists and ensembles performing concerts throughout the months of July & August. On August 2, enjoy selections from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker for piano at the beautiful Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla.
Oceanside International Film Festival
When: Sunday August 3, 2pm – 6pm
Where: Star Theatre, 402 North Coast Hwy, Oceanside 92054
What: Celebrate opening evening of the Oceanside Film Festival! Hobnob with the stars during the Red Carpet Welcome and prepare for one of the most exciting weeks in the film industry. The Oceanside International Film Festival officially kicks off a season of various film festivals around the city of San Diego.
Bazaar del Mundo’s Latin American Festival
When: Friday August 1 – Sunday August 3
Where: Bazaar Del Mundo; 4133 Taylor St., San Diego 92110
What: Bazaar Del Mundo’s annual festival presents one of the nation’s most extensive collections of authentic Mexican folk art, traditional clothing and textiles, colorful collectibles and dazzling jewelry, plus entertainment and Mexican cuisine. Guest artisans from Chihuahua, Mexico will be creating eye-popping Mata Ortiz pottery, a centuries-old art form renowned for its hand-painted geometric and ancestral symbols.
