This weekend is packed full of awesome activities, from a stargazing extravaganza to a spirits festival and a 4k run/walk to celebrate the end of summer. Check out all of the best La Jolla weekend events right here and start planning an awesome three days with friends and family.

Julian Starfest

When: Friday, August 22-Sunday, August 24 / 9am-11:45pm
Where: Menghini Winery- 1150 Julian Orchards Dr, Julian 92036
What: Anyone can enjoy the Julian StarFest by participating in the free public star party on Saturday, August 23, 2014. Arrive in Julian between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and you’ll be able to enter the StarFest grounds for free. Several telescopes will be set up in the viewing area so you can examine the stars, and experts will be on hand to answer any questions. Bring a red flashlight and your hawk eyes – all that open space makes for some great stargazing! 

San Diego Spirits Festival

Where: Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier,1000 N. Harbor Drive
What: San Diego Spirits Festival is a nationally acclaimed celebration of cocktail culture and is the premiere West coast spirits festival held on the beautiful San Diego bay. Enjoy cocktail tastings, witness bartender competitions, a champagne fest, demonstrations, seminars, delicious alcohol and food pairings, and even acrobatic stunts by Aerial Revolution! Celebrate the industry and all that it encompasses – from industry advancement, professionalism, and education to showcasing product innovation, market launches, and entertainment.

Donuts at the Del Mar Racetrack

When: Saturday August 23, 8am-10am
Where: Del Mar Racetrack & Turf Club, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., San Diego 92101

What: Head to the racetrack for free coffee, orange juice and yummy donuts as you take a behind-the-scenes look into the world of Thoroughbred racing. Track announcer Trevor Denman will host the festivities, which include question and answer sessions with famous jockeys and trainers while watching the horses during their morning workouts. The event will be held in the Seaside Terrace area at the West end of the Grandstand. Other activities include a meet and greet with the Del Mar Mascot Pony Boy along with face painting, entertainers, and free prizes for the kids. Morning fun for the whole family!

 

End of Summer 2014 Fire Run/Walk

When: Sunday August 24, 7am-9am
Where: Prospect & Girard Streets, La Jolla CA 92037
What: Join the community for the End of Summer Fire Run and Walk benefiting San Diego area High Schools. The 4 mile run/walk starts at Prospect and Girard in La Jolla and ends at Mission Blvd and Felspar in Pacific Beach. For more information and to find out how to register visit kathyloper.com.

Daniel Darko Marciano at Warwick’s

Where: Warwick’s, 7812 Girard Ave., La Jolla 
What: As part of their ongoing Weekend with Locals Program, Warwick’s in La Jolla will be hosting Daniel Darko Marciano – author of Thomas Blasts Off. This is definitely a family friendly event; he’ll be giving out free coloring pages to everyone who attends, especially the little ones. His children’s book is an exciting tale of triumph for kids of all ages, about the underdog who’s always on the outside looking in. Don’t miss this Weekend with Locals experience!
