Spring is in the air, and we’re loving it! We’ve got everything you need to have a fun-filled and exciting weekend, from crew racing to butterfly festivals and scavenger hunts. 1. The San Diego Crew Classic
When: Saturday, April 5 – Sunday, April 6
Where: Crown Point Drive, (east of Ingraham Street) Mission Bay
What: The first major regatta of the year! Watch the races, hang out in one of the Beer Gardens, and spend time in the kid-friendly Family Festival area. Tickets are $12 if you purchase them in advance from crewclassic.org and $15 at the door.
2. Embark On a Puzzling Adventure
When: Friday, April 4 – Sunday, April 6
Where: UCSD, 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla 92093
What: Scavenger Hunt + Guided Tour + Amazing Race = A Puzzling Adventure! The adventure will take place in & around the Stuart Collection at UCSD. You’ll be guided to a series of locations where you then answer questions or solve puzzles to receive your next instructions! All you need is a smartphone with internet access and some excitement! 3. Butterfly Festival
When: Saturday April 5, 9am-3pm
Where: The Water Conservation Garden, 12122 Cuyamaca College Dr. West, El Cajon
What: Celebrate the grand opening of the new Butterfly Pavilion by attending The Garden’s FIRST Butterfly Festival. Enjoy a day of family-friendly activities, including tours of the new enclosure, a Butterfly Discovery Lab, crafts, and more. Tickets are $5 for adults and just $1 for children ages 3-17. 4. The Withering World: Poetry of Sandor Marai
When: Saturday April 5, 7pm
Where: D.G. Wills Books. 7461 Girard Ave, La Jolla 92037
What: John M. Ridland and Peter Czipott will read from their new book The Withering World, the first English translations of Sándor Márai’s poetry (1900-1989). Sándor Márai is remembered worldwide as the acclaimed author of Embers, Casanova in Bolzano, and The Rebels, but he first made his name as a poet and translator of poetry, producing a rich body of work in the genre. Entrance is free; just show up early to make sure you get a seat!
5. Uncasked: A Neighborhood Craft Beer Event
Where: Westfield University Town Centre, 4425 La Jolla Village Drive, San Diego, 92122
What: Celebrate San Diego’s exploding craft beer scene at Westfield UTC’s inaugural “Uncasked” event. Enjoy offerings from 12 different local craft breweries including Karl Strauss Brewing Company, Acoustic Ales Brewing Experiment, and Helm’s Brewing Co., paired with culinary bites from some of Westfield UTC’s gourmet dining options. Award-winning local musicians will provide an acoustic backdrop to the afternoon’s festivities. Tickets are $20-$25. Entry includes ten beer tastings, unlimited bites, a branded pilsner glass, and exclusive offers from Westfield UTC retailers.
