The La Jolla Recreation Center has been a community spotlight since it first opened in 1915. Opened by Ellen Browning Scripps, the center was dedicated to the City of San Diego and to the children of La Jolla. Today, it is considered a historical site and serves as a gathering place for everybody in the community. One of the best-kept secrets in La Jolla is that the center offers a plethora of classes, training courses, and events all year long! Here is an overlook at the activities awaiting you and your family!
Youth & Adult Classes:
Bring the little ones to this fun and entertaining marshal arts class. Practice begins January 14 and is weekly on Tuesday evenings from 5:30PM – 6:30PM. The course is 5 weeks long and is priced at $65.
This instructional class is ideal for younger teenagers looking to certified babysitter. Course objectives include infant care skills, how to handle bedtime, discipline, choking, infant and child CPR, and an introduction to first aid. The class is offered from 9:00AM – 1:00PM. Adult Classes – 18 & Older:
Thursday: 6:00PM – 7:30PM
Saturday: 9:30AM – 11:00AM
This class has been designed for all levels in mind and will help build strength, flexibility, balance, & endurance.
Monday: 11:15AM – 12:00PM
Tuesday & Thursday: 9:30AM – 10:30AM
Kundalini Yoga, while more challenging, can help reduce stress, anxiety, back problems, depression, high blood pressure and much more. Kundalini Yoga features a mixture of conscious breathing, guided movements, stretching, meditation, and more!
Friday Morning – BEGINNERS CLASS: 9:45AM
Friday Morning – ADVANCED CLASS: 10:30AM
Learn the techniques of this ancient art form while helping build your core muscles, strength, and mind. This class is focused for participants of all skill levels.
Every 4th Saturday of the month: 9:30AM – 10:30AM
If your in need of improving your lifestyle, want help with your diet, or simply want to have a more energetic body, you’ve found the perfect class! Ring in the New Year with this workshop focused on helping inform you on nutrition, health habits, and dieting.
Classes meet on Wednesday mornings for this fun and relaxing class. Brush up on your skills, improve your swing, and enjoy playing some rounds of table tennis!
Monday – Saturday
Get your body in shape and toned for the New Year! Head to the public weight room located at the recreation center. Equipment includes stationary bikes, elliptical machines, tread mills, stair steppers, circuit training machines, and free weights. Prices range from $5 for the day, to $90 for a year long membership.
This is just a brief glance at the extensive amount of classes offered at the La Jolla Recreation Center. Also worth noting, yoga, tai chi, and workshop courses are free!
