This past week a couple of my co-workers and myself found ourselves at Crab Catcher’s Happy Hour. Their Happy Hour takes place in the Ocean Tapas Bar adjacent to the restaurant. It still encompasses the gorgeous view of the ocean near the Cove. We were sure to snag a spot near the window so we could enjoy the view with our cocktails. While the name is “Happy Hour,” it is really three hours, starting at 3pm and ending at 6pm.
There are many drink specials that guests can indulge in at discounted prices. We chose from a long list of Happy Hour specialty martini’s. I chose the Jolly Rancher Martini, a fruity blend with a cherry on top. The rest of my party got a Lemon Drop Martini and the French Martini. All were equally delicious!
The Specialty Martini’s are not the only drinks to choose from. Their full bar also offers $4 Margaritas, domestic beers, champagne, and any other drink concoction of your choosing.

Appetizers and Entrees
While the Crab Catcher is far from lacking on their drink specials, the same goes for their happy hour food items. Many of the items were perfect for sharing which is exactly what we did. The Calamari ($8) was delicious and was the perfect amount for the four of us. We also ordered the Cove Nachos Grande ($8), a plate full of chips piled high with jack cheese, queso fresco, salsa fresca, and sour creme. We also added crab meat to the nachos for another $5. I highly recommend these nachos! Completely filling and satisfying. Last but certainly not least, we each got a Baja Fish Taco for $3. Crispy tempura battered fish with shredded cabbage, salsa fresca, and cilantro white sauce all wrapped in an El Indio Restaurant corn tortilla. The taco was by far my favorite item.
While these were just a couple of the food items we chose there is more on the menu worth trying. Oyster Shooters ($2.50), Flatbread Pizza ($12), Olive Tray ($6), Caesar Salad ($8), Crab Stuffed Mushrooms ($8) and more. Guests may also order from a list of their house specials which include Sourdough Bowls with either clam chowder ($14) or crab bisque ($15), crab cakes ($18), the La Jolla Burger ($16), Ahi Crudo Tacos ($16) and more.
If you want the perfect topper to your happy hour outing, save a little room for dessert. Ice cream ($2.50), a hot fudge sundae ($3), or paradise pie ($3.50) awaits you.
