We have a very busy weekend ahead of us! With the big game on sunday, and Chinese New Year taking place today, there will be an abundance of activities going on to keep you on your toes. Here is a brief look at some of the La Jolla events taking place, and some of the other festivities going on around San Diego County:
Chinese Food Cooking Class
When: January 31st: 6:30PM – 8:30PM
Where: Sur La Table, La Jolla

9th Annual San Diego Tết Festival: A Vietnamese Celebration of the Lunar New Year
When: January 31st – February 2nd
Where: Mira Mesa Community Park
What: Tết Nguyên Đán (Tet) is one of most important holidays in Vietnam. Celebrated over a period of three days, Tet will kick off on Friday with the legendary Lion Dance at 6:00PM. The event is free and open to the public. Other festivities include live music, traditional performances, and activities for the entire family! Welcome in the New Lunar Year with this family-friendly event!
Sunrise Surprise Stroll @ The San Diego ZOO
When: February 1st: 7:30AM
Where: The world famous San Diego ZOO
What: Think you know the ZOO well? Think again! Take the entire family to the San Diego this saturday to experience their unique program titled Sunrise Surprise Strolls. Enjoy a private tour of the ZOO before the gates open to the public. Go behind-the-scenes, experience up close animal encounters, and learn up to the minute details about exciting events at the ZOO. Sunrise Surprise Strolls include breakfast muffins and coffee. Admission for the event is $16 and is for adults, ages 12 and older. To register, please call 619-557-3963.
DIY Handmade Valentine Day Cards
When: Daily until February 17th: 10:00AM – 4:00PM
Where: The New Children’s Museum, Downtown San Diego
What: Bring the little ones down to The New Children’s Museum in downtown San Diego to make your own DIY Valentine Day Cards. Eco-friendly materials include re-purposed paper and fabric scraps! Card making is free with admission.
La Jolla Farmers Market
When: Every Sunday: 9:00AM – 1:00PM
Where: La Jolla Elementary School
What: As La Jolla’s premier market, the weekly La Jolla Farmers Market is the best place to pick up organically grown produce, browse local handmade artisan gifts, and enjoy an outdoor breakfast. Be sure to pick up last minute snacks and drinks at the market before the big game on sunday!
On the Beach @ MCASD
When: February 2nd: All day
Where: MCASD La Jolla
What: Be sure to stop by the MCASD La Jolla on sunday to check out one of their newest exhibits. The pieces of art in this exhibit highlight local beach settings as the sites of cultural interactions and conflicts in paradise. The museum is open from 11:00AM – 5:00PM. Admission ranges from $5-$10, and is free for military families and guests ages 25 & under.
